Although Dyson's vacuum cleaners don't come with a video game-style reset button, you can reset the brush bar on upright models. ... Turn your Dyson vacuum cleaner's power off and unplug the cord from the electrical outlet. Flip the machine over to reveal the bottom side of the vacuum cleaner head.
Machine cut out during use. Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system thatstops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the machine or tools are blocked. If your machine cuts out, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down.
It sounds like a battery level issue, as they automatically cut off when running flat. Try leaving the battery on charge for an extended amount of time (a few days, perhaps) and see if it comes good, otherwise you may need to replace the battery.
I had the same problem, after a few seconds the VAC cut off try turning off the Brush Roll mine then stayed on. the problem is with the rotation brush in the bottom of the VAC you need to take the cap off the end of the brush (the side where you can see the metal pin) it is not easy to get off but it can be removed. if its like mine it will be full of hair, this makes it hard to rotate. once cleaned put the cap back on, put the rotating brush back and it should work. This has resolved my problem.
make sure the filter is washed thoroughly. I have/had the same problem and washing the filter helps a lot - it cuts off if overheating....and avoid picking up really fine dust like after drilling picture hook holes...
If the machine cut out during use this will be the thermal cut out. This is caused by the motor becoming too hot during use, due to a blockage or a dirty filter. full details on how to resolve this can be found on our website at www.dyson.com. Simply click on Support and you will find all the info you need.
If the machine has cut out and wont switch on again after being left for a few hours, it sounds like an engineer will be required to inspect and repair the machine. You can contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).
