Based upon your description of the problems it sounds like you have an electroni igniter that is not working. There is a battery in the remote and in the igniter. If either battery is dead it must be replaced to get the electronic ignition.

1. could be air in the pipe ,supplying pilot. normally takes several goes to start before you get gas at the pilot.
or it could be a blocked pilot jet.

Pilot light won't light on ventless fireplace

Ventless Gas logs, Vanguard, VS30PR. Propane gas
Pilot light stays lit various times, sometimes for several days then other times for a few minutes. Lights best when temp outside is below freezing. Pilot flame appears to receive too much air. How do you adjust the pilot flame? Is this done using two screws marked A & E? Do you have suggestions?
Thanks,
Ed

You should the value there should be a pilot ajustment screw
some times it is hidden under another screw but should be close to where the pilot light line hooks to the gas value

You have dust in the pilot safety. The system detects low oxygen in the area and weakens the flame on the pilot. Dust imitates the low oxygen. Blow out the ODS or flush it with a tiny drop of rustbuster.

My vent free Desa natural log will run for a short

it is likely you have dirty O2sensor, it is incorporated into pilot assembly.turn unit off,use compressed air in a can and blow into spot where pilot flames comes from.this will fix it in most cases.in a small % of time entire pilot assembly needs to be taken apart and cleaned

Little spark to start my unvented 8 year old Rinnai. Use match.

Yes - most likely thermocouple, or if the pilot has an orange tip, it will not heat the thermocouple enough to keep the valve energised. Try a blast with canned air or contact cleaner down the tube, not 100psi air compressor.
If that doesn't help, time to ring a gasfitter.
