My Acer aspire 5315 will not boot up. It's only a few months old, no drops or bangs. Lights and fan work but screen will not show up. It was bought from america as present, acer wont fix it here in the uk. What should i do without having to fork out hundreds of pounds? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I actually contacted Acer using email and they sent me a solution in about one day. Here's the exact quote.

Try the steps below for a power reset, to eliminate a hardware problem with your notebook:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds then release it. (You will not see anything happen)

4. Connect the AC Adapter to the laptop. Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in.

5. Turn the computer on as normal.

6. Once Windows boots, insert the battery.

If the notebook still does not power on, we recommend the notebook be serviced by our authorized repair depot. You can set this up for service yourself by going to www.acerpanam.com; click on the link for Depot Repair. If you are out of warranty, or you would rather do this via phone, please contact Acer Technical Support at 1-800-816-2237, Mon-Fri 7am-9pm CST and Sat-Sun 8am-5pm CST excluding holidays. For out of warranty products please call 1-866-621-2237. Hours of operation are 7am-8pm CST, Mon-Fri, and Sat-Sun 8am-5pm CST excluding holidays.

You will want to contact the manufacturer. They usually have a 1 year parts warrenty on your laptop. The most logical reason is that the mother board(Main PCB) has took a dump. You will want to read the material here: https://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx

Good Luck!

Dell laptop shuting down problem

I would try running a registry cleaning programme as it may be stuck in a loop and also check for a BIOS update from Dell.

Caps Lock on when boot?

Let's start off with the simple stuff first;

1) Laptop dirty inside?

Post back in a Comment.
Also post the Product Number.
This can be found in the white Service Tag, on the bottom of the laptop. P/N = Product Number.

My computer continues to shut-down for no apparent reason while booting up. It will get to bios then abruptly shutdown. Please Help!!

Maybe something is defective from the factory? Can you bring it back and exchange it for another? Is it a desktop or a laptop? If it's a desktop, maybe remove a side panel and aim a small fan at the inside. Do you know how to start up your computer in safe mode? Maybe try starting it in safe mode and see if you can do a system restore, do you know what that is and how to do it? Google will explain it to you, but I'd suggest those steps.

Asus u52 shut down unexpectedly

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

My laptop Sony Vaio CS 320J is shutting down with out any notice(not proper shut down but poweroff while running) and not booting again for @ least 2 mins. recently this issue started and this is...

Remove the bottom pan to expose the cooling fan, clean all dirt out of the heat sink and fins, and clean fan, next remove the heat sink to expose the processor ic, remove the old thermal grease with rubbing alcohol, and apply fresh thermal conductive compound to the heat sink and processor, "not to much! just enough to cover the critical areas and assemble. In most cases this will solve the shutdown problem.

Toshiba M40X laptop starts to boot than shutsdown after 5to10 sec

This is probably an issue with the laptop's power supply. Check your PSU for anything that looks burnt or charred and post back. It can also be due to a faulty graphics card but lets check all the possibilities first..
PS:Not that you will have to take your laptop apart for this so if you don't know what you are doing better take professional assistance

Bought 6 months ago and will not boot up, with battrey out it will attempt to start for a couple of secs and then nothing

After 8 days of no life at all in the laptop , having 2 computer technicians around saying it was probably the motherboard and just about to send to Sony I pressed the power button and hey presto it worked again..Guess it was just sleeping or hibernating...after all it is spring now....Actually one guy of the many forums I have visited advised just to leave the Laptop alone and perhaps it would mend itself..and hey presto he was right, although having said that I have yet to turn the laptop off and startup again..HMMMMMMM...

Dell computer won't start up.

if you have 2 memory sticks, (i.e. 2 ram sticks that are 2 gb each) try putting on in and start it.  if it does not work try this.
remove all power supplies (cord and battery).   hold down the power button for 30-60 sec.   after that plug the power in and try turning it on.

Hi Fayez,

How soon does the laptop switch off? Immediately, or a few minutes into booting into Windows, or ... ?

It could be an overheating issue. If you're using it on your lap or on a soft surface such as a couch or bed, the fan might not be able to release the heat.

Try putting something underneath the back of the laptop and place it on a stable surface such as a desk and boot it up - see if it still shuts down.

Otherwise, let me know how soon it's switching off, or at what point if it's the same point every time.
