My battery had to get changed and now I need a security code to get it working again. I was never given it and when I called the dealer from where I bought the car they said they threw out my file because it had been over 2 years. How do I get it unlocked?

Security lockout code will be required. You should have it in your Owners manual or you will need to go to a Dealer with your ownership proof and VIN or chassis number to get the code.

You need to visit your dealer and ask for this code number with the right serial of your device. This is one unique number for each device and couldn't find in Internet.

I changed the battery in my 2006 Honda Civic, last night and now my radio is not working

When you disconnect the power from the radio like this it needs a security code to get it working again as the radio automatically locks up when the power is removed as an antitheft measure. These codes are individual to the radio itself and you will need to contact your local Honda Dealer with the VIN number of the car and proof of owndership in order to get the code.

Luckily Honda are the only manufacturer that I know of that will provide the code to you for free. You can also get this code online direct from Honda if you are already registered in their database as the owner of the car. For more information on how to do it this way see this FixYa Tip.

Again it is free to do it this way.

Hope it helps. Please do take a moment to leave a vote for the solution.

I have mitsubishi mirage 2000 my car stereo is antitheft it needs a code to go back on i bought used and cant get contact from the person i end up buying it from can you help me.

I recently changed the battery in my car, and now my radio display indicates 'CODE' or 'OFF' and the radio is not working. What do I need to do?

As part of the radio's anti-theft system on some older model year vehicles (2002 and older), the radio resets itself whenever it loses power from the vehicle's battery. Radio security codes are associated with each individual radio unit rather than the vehicle identification number (VIN) (since a vehicle could have the radio replaced). The radio security code must be input in the radio in order for the radio to work.

When you purchased your vehicle, you should have received a card that lists the four digit security code for the radio. If you are unable to locate this card (sometimes owners find it inserted in the Owner's Manual or glove box), the radio will need to be removed so that you can locate the Part Number and Serial Number for your specific radio. The Part Number typically begins with the letters 'MR' and the Serial Number is generally a string of digits and both numbers can be located on the audit unit's chassis.

Please contact your local Authorized Mitsubishi Dealer if you need assistance removing the radio. Once the Part Number and the Serial Number are in hand, your Dealer can access the security code for that radio. You may also contact our Customer Relations Call Center at 1-888-MITSU2011 (1-888-648-7820) and one of our agents will be happy to provide you with the security code and steps to reset the radio as long as you have the Part Number and Serial Number for your radio unit. Agents are available Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (PT).

Need code to restart my Kenwood radio KVT 512...just bought the car & needed a new battery. After replacing the old bAttery noticed my radio is now asking for a pass code which the dealer doesn't...

Its possible that you need to visit the car dealer; generally, the "lock code" is in the last page from owners manual, if not, sometimes need to pay the autoshop or delaer for this sevrice.

Good luck.

How to enter security code & where to get it.

If your radio is factory, try calling the dealer where the car was bought. If you dont know then call the manufacturer. Normaly if your radio is asking for a code none of the buttons will respond untill you enter the code. The number buttons work but with no sound. If you enter the code incorrect 3 times it will lock you out, and you will either have to wait an hour to retry or you can try removing the radio fuse for a minute then put it back in and try again.
