Question about Bestec (ATX-250-12E) 250-Watt Power Supply

EMachines T2245 won't turn on, front light stays on

I am completely computer illiterate- so bare with me as I try my best to describe the problem-

My eMachines T2245 will not turn on. I've held the power button for multiple seconds and still won't do anything. However when I unplug the unit, the light around the power button stays on, AND a small yellow light right below it. Not sure what is going on. Read other blogs, and maybe a PSU might be what is needed?? Are they expensive and hard to replace? Any advice will help. Thank you!

IT CAN BE MANY THINGS 1 UNPLUG SYSTEM FROM THE WALL, 2 REMOVE THE MEMORY AND REINSTALL THEM, 2
CHECK ALL CONNECTION INSIDE THE COMPUTER CASE AND THE OUTSIDE TO, 3 TO REMOVE A POWER SUPPLY IS 4 PHILLIPS SCREWS POWER CONNECTIONINSIDE CASE, REMOVE THE POWER FROM ALL OTHER DEVICE CAREFULLY AND TAKE IT TO YOUR NEARST COMPUTER STORE, SAVE YOUR RECIEPTS IN CASE IT IS NOT THE POWER SUPPLY PROBLEM, RETURN IT AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
POWER SUPPLYS SHOULD NOT COST MUCH, IFYOU ARE STRAPED FOR MONEY GO TO GOOD WILL AND HAVE THE FIRE UP ONE OF THE SYSTEM THEY HAVE THEY MAY EVEN HAVE A NEW ENPTY TOWER CASE LAYING AROUND FOR 30.00 DOLLARS.

What a Marvelous person!

You have described a 4-pin Peripheral power cable, ('P6'),

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

An IDE harddrive, of which the 4-pin Peripheral power cable example, is plugged into.
Another look at an IDE (PATA) harddrive,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136096

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA

However, I do not know if the flat IDE ribbon cable marked Slave, goes to a secondary Harddrive, or an optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)

Either way the point is moot. BOTH of those 'squarish flat black' units, HAVE a 4-pin Peripheral power cable to them.
Another hardware component, those type of power wires CAN go to, is a computer case fan.

However not ALL power cables have to be used. Sometimes there are extra ones. These are in case they are need later.

To summarize;
The optical drive, or drives; that you put a CD, or DVD disk in; can use a 4-pin Peripheral power cable.
(IDE/PATA optical drive)

Harddrive's can use a 4-pin Peripheral power cable.
(IDE/PATA harddrive)

A computer case fan may use a 4-pin Peripheral power cable.

Or the 4-pin Peripheral power cable you see, may simply be an extra one. One if needed in the future.

The eMachines T2245 uses a Trigem (Manufacturer), Imperial GLVE (Model name), motherboard,

Supports an IDE (PATA) harddrive, (Or 2 of them)
Supports an IDE (PATA) optical drive, (or two of them)

I DO hope you are following Anti-Static Procedures!

Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.
Relieve your body of Static, BEFORE reaching inside your computer.

Computer on a table, computer Unplugged from power, computer case open;
TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open, empty computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

IF, you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.

Yes, I use them for a year, and then they sell them.

Is there a problem?

OH, C'MON I'M JUST KIDDING!

1) Is the computer dirty inside?

The two major issues with desktop computer failure, is the computer is dirty inside; and Power Supply failure.

How do I add memory to my eMachine T2245. I know that it takes DDR PC2100, but can I use 1GB, or do I need to add memory in pairs?

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 1GB per slot, so a max of 2GB. Your computer does not support dual channel memory or ECC memory. You also do not have to install it in pairs. This would be ideal for you.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220029

It has lifetime warranty. Pick up 2 of those and max out your memory. You will notice a HUGE increase in performance. Memory upgrades offer the biggest bang for your buck.

I am trying to replace the power supply on my emachine model t2245 - I unplugged the old one and now not sure what and where all the plugs from power supply go?!?!? 0

well ill take a shot here, usuall in most circumstances the plugs should match up shape wise. the plugs for the harddrive and for cd ect. are all 12 volts so if the plug fits should be ok.
