Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
I checked with my server because I couldn't get online and they said the router was bad. How can I check to see if it is not working
Check to see if you can access the router's control panel. To reach the control panel make sure you are DIRECTLY connected to the router with a CAT5 (Ethernet) cable.
Now go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. In here type: ipconfig
Press Enter. The command should return results similar to these:
IP Address: . . . . 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: . . . 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: . 192.168.1.1
What you want is the IP Address associated with the, "Default Gateway." Now open your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc...) and type that same IP Address into the address field. DO NOT add www. or .com. Now press ENTER (Or GO) as if you want to visit a website. This should take you to the router's control panel. Once here you will probably have to log in, if you don't know the username and password try the default:
If that doesn't work you'll have to call Linksys for assistance in reseting the login User ID and Password. Once you manage to log in try some of the links. If no errors are returned (Page not Found, etc...) your router should be functional and is not the source of your troubles.
