Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System
We just recieved a 1 year old side by side Whirlpool refridgerator and since wee installed it the part of the ice maker where the fingers push the ice out of the ice tray stays up. It also has drinking water that you can get out of the door and it works. I have pushed the on and of arm up and down ( of and on ) but that has made no difference. Thanks for your help!
The arm should be in the down position for the ice maker to work.
You should also check the electrical connection at the rear of the ice maker and make sure it is plugged in all the way. Sometimes you have to remove the ice maker to check the connections. It just depends on the model. If you need to remove it check the electrical connection you will see 2 silver screws about the fingers you are refering to (on the fridge wall). You will need to remove these and sometimes the will be wall screw on the bottom of the ice maker as well. The ice maker will drop out as one unit and you will see the electrical connection in the rear.
Make sure the plug is seated properly and reinstall the ice maker with the 2 or 3 screws. Make note to that your little plastic fill tube in inside the ice maker when you reinstall.
If you still don't have ice in 24 hrs. then you may be due for a replacement ice maker. partstore.com will be one of the cheapest place to order a replacement. Just enter the model of your fridge and it should pop up the replacement maker in a parts list.
You already know how to replace it yourself.... 2 or 3 screws. easy.

The fingers should "normally" be in the 2 o'clock position facing the front of the icemaker. what we need to do is remove the front cover of the i/m look at the big gear in the center of the gear should be 2 clips that hold the gear in place. sometimes this clips will either break off or become compressed and then it doesnt allow i/m operation. the part is very easy to replace your self you need pt#8201515 that can be purchased thru a local appliance parts supply house or online thru some place like sears.com. good luck peyton..
