Thanks MrMark,The fridge is a whirlpool side by side model # GD5RHAXNQ00.........When i defrost it,I take out the shelves and remove the back cover and use a hair dryer. It last for about 2 weeks and then freezes up again.I can see the evap fan running before i unplug it when I have the cover off.I do have a multimeter, and can read wiring diagrams.......a little.
But I would be glad to try.Any thing you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. The more things we can fix for ourselfs the better.

Classic symptoms -

Chances are if they are getting cool, then later not, and there is a large accumulation of frost -

1) the evaporator fan in the freezer is not running
2) Defrost heater has failed
3) Defrost sensor has failed
4) Defrost timer/refrigerator control has failed.

Check for ice build-up on the back wall of the freezer. If there is ice, unplug or turn the unit off for 6-8 hours with the doors open (put any food in a cooler with ice to maintain). Note water may come out of the refrigerator.
Plug the unit back in or turn it back on, close the doors, and check temperature after a couple of hours of operation. If all OK, you will need to have the above tested, or, if you know how to use a multimeter and can read a schematic/wiring diagram, I can instruct you on how to check the above. Please provide specific unit Model number to proceed further.

    Sounds good.

You need to determine which of those items I listed are bad. You have described a typical defrost circuit problem by how you defrost the unit, and it does take 2-4 weeks for frost to rebuild, depending on how much the refer or freezer are opened, condition of door gaskets, etc.

I would look at the defrost timer first, which should be located to the bottom left behind the grill at the floor. I can't find a wiring diagram of the unit, and the timer is not showing up in the parts list that I go to to look at these units. You'll have to tell me if it has one. If it does, there is normally a slotted plastic screw you can turn to initiate the timer. Rotate if a few degrees at a time and see if things start happening. And if it runs on it's own after you turn it the first time, then let it. And be suspect if it doesn't start on it's own again in the future.
Doing this will somewhat test the rest of the components, particularly if the freezer goes ahead and defrosts. If it doesn't, you'll need to check the continuity of the defrost heater, and the defrost thermostat, which you have probably seen mounted to the large refrigerant tube in the freezer section. A little round bulb with 2 wires coming out of it.

Let me know what you find and we can proceed.

My kenmore bottom freezer is only 4 years old and has been freezing up and on its coils and then the top frig does not stay cold. what is the problem?

You have a defrost problem. You must supply the model number so the manufacture can be identified. Kenmore makes nothing of their own.

Refrigerator is cold, freezer not freezing

Amana refrig have 2 main problems . 1 is the defrost bimetal ( 1" cylinder at the top right on the freezer coils with 2 wires ) and the other is a refrigerant leak where the copper tubing joins the aluminum tubing at the freezer coils ( evaporator coils ) . If your freezer fan is not working and you have frost on the freezer coils then replace the bimetal as this also controls the defrost heater ( defrost thermostat ) . If you have no frost on the coils ( for both checks , you will have to remove the inside rear freezer panel , maybe 12 screws ) , then a refrigerant leak has happened and the best solution would be to replace the refrig .

Whirlpool frig. Freezer warm, frig seems ok.

Since the temperature is already 40°, the cold control is satisfied and will not run. Thus the freezer will warm up to 40°.

Maytag freezer don't freeze food or make ice

There could be several things causing the frig to be cold but not cold enough. First check thermostat control and air control. Both should be set in the middle setting for normal operation.Next check to see if evaporater fan is running in freezer. It should be running whenever compressor runs and circulates cold air inside frig as well as freezer. Next check if condensor fan motor is running. It blows air over condensor coils to remove heat. Last ,check condensor itself for dirty coils. If they are matted up with hair dust, etc. it will cause poor cooling. you can give thorough cleaning with vacuum cleaner. Hope this helps

I have a Kenmore Cold Spot fridge, freezer on top. Fridge is warm, and freezer keeps freezing up on sides and bottom. I cleaned it all out, defrosted it, and it still freezes up and fridge still won't get...

Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also.

The frig part and the freezer part are not getting cold. They get cold every two days, then gets warm for two days and then it re-peats the cycle.

Hi, check to see if both the fans are running or check and see if there is frost builing up inside the freezer. Are the condesor coils clean? These coils are located under the refrigerator near the compressor.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Amana frig

1.Dirty condenser coils where heat is transfered to the room air. 2.Frost build-up on back wall of freezer section which would indicate a defrost system problem.
