If it's just a dirty palm print on the surface, you can clean it off with Windex or another spray glass cleaner. Spray the cleaner on a soft cloth and wipe the screen - do not spray the screen directly. This will prevent the cleaner from running down the screen into the unit.

On the other hand, if your daughter pressed hard enough on the screen to cause pressure damage to the display, the discoloration is permanent and you can't do anything about it. Some LCD's are made with a hard glass-like front surface and are fairly rugged, but others are softer plastic. Press too hard on those and you destroy the display at that point.

Sony 52 inch XBR with bands of ghosted images

Its a TAB bond Problem with the LCD. You can take apart the TV and install a rubber Bumper to put pressure on the TAB. TAB bonds always get worse... I dont know how long it will solve the issue... but u can get a little more life out of it.
Rember when working with the TV the voltages can kill!!
Heres a link to see someone fixing.
I have the same TV...same problem...common problem...unless u ask Sony.

Our sony bravia 52 inch goes into a one third screen view to the left with a bright green line on the right. Powering off and on solves the problem, but this has happened at least twice. It's only about...

Hi,
Problem sounds with t-con board that is part of lcd panel (screen).
Since its a week old so must be under warranty, ask Sony for warranty cover or get replacement from Store there it was purchased.
Thanks.

Sony Bravia XBR4 52inch LCD cracked

It can be replaced, but it is probably going to cost you more then the cost of a new TV to do it.

Read the tech tip I wrote on this very subject.

How long can you leave the 52" sony bravia on for?

I recommend that all big screens get turned off when not in use for 10 minutes.
Some sets have screen savers, some don't. Also, when plugged in and turned on they are susceptible to power spikes, another reason to turn it off.
