Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Computer tries to start but only goes to safemode.

My computer tries to start but it only goes to what I think is the safemode page but nothing works. I tried the F8 key but again did the same thing. The safemode, safemode network and others didn't do a thing. I tried to go back to the last good configuration but none of the keys worked. HELP!!!!
Thank you,

some files should not be deleted. depends on which folder you were deleting from. you should only delete files downloaded by YOU nothing else is safe to remove...that goes for any computer device.
tablets have apps that do the sytem work these careful. you may have to 'reset' it but that may not work if you removed a system application.

On start up my pc wont go past the first start up screen what can it be

Hi supplier616!

Kindly following the following

1. Unplug power cable and battery (if this is a laptop). Hold down power button for 10 seconds (nothing is going to happen on this we are just draining power from the mainboard). Start the computer again see if it works.

2. Drain the power again. After draining the power open the sidecover (for desktop) or the access panel (for laptop) look for the rams and reseat. Afterwards, turn on the computer.

3. If no go, please enter BIOS (the button for this depends on your computer but mostly (F2 for laptop and F1 for desktop). Load defaults on BIOS (again this depends on your computer but mostly it's F9) then save and exit

4. If still won't work, try going to safemode. Do F8 and select just safemode. If you are able to login to safemode, back-up the files that you need then reformat the computer. If after reformatting or within the process of reformatting you had an issue, the problem on your computer might be the HDD or the Ram

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you for using Fixya,

This is a tough one. sounds to me like you have a bad driver. if you press f8 repeatedly at the beginning of boot before windows starts up, windows should give you a choice to start in 'safemode'.

Safemode doesnt load any drivers from your manufacturer.

The tough part is finding the culprit.

I suggest removing all the drivers in safemode and then reboot, and install one driver at a time till you get the error again.

If you need to change drivers while in windows normal mode you can get to the device manager by right clicking my computer and selecting properties with a left click. this will open a section with tabs, one of the tabs will have the device manager button on it.

In stop on safty mode

Do not do a repair install !!!. The system only loading safemode is a sign of a video driver problem, from safemode do the following. 0. Completely uninstall your all/prior video drivers.
1. Disable all startup items. Once that is done reboot and you should be able to load windows normally, you can them reinstall your eVGA 7800GT drivers and also enable only needed startup items (MSCONFIG).

do you have virus/spyware protection? and make sure its up to date. Sounds like a virus. run:

do full system virus scan. to prove its a virus/spyware restart in safemode, if everything is fine in safemode its a virus.
