My washer model fjs1397w wont move through a wash cycle or spin drum wont go around on any cycle , tried moving it around by hand will not do anything

if you are unable to turn the drum by hand it may have ceased due to a sock or item of clothing jammed in it behind the drum this in turn may have snapped the belt

In the process of washing, the machine stop with a humming sound in the motor and a burnt smell. I unplugged it but now have a load of clothes in water and machine makes no sound or movement at all. I...

Sounds like you burned a drive belt... It's not hard to replace but it's important to discover what caused the belt to fry.
The front panel comes off the machine by removing 2 phillips head screws at the kick panel area of the front cover. Once the screws are out you can tip the front panel's bottom edge out until you've angled it enough to allow the panel to drop off the top retainer clips.
This will expose all the "innards" - the motor, the plastic pump, drum and if you look under the base of the machine, you'll see the belts.
There are two, one main drive and one for the pump. Usually something will jam the pump and won't allow the water to drain out of the machine. They've made the pump opaque plastic so you can see inside without removing the hoses...
Automotive parts houses sell clamping pliers for crimping off radiator hoses and they work wonders to crimp the hose from the drum to the pump. They'll lock in place while you remove the clamp and remove the hose (use a pair of needlenose pliers to remove any blockage in the pump.
Maytag makes their machine fairly simple and very reliable. You should have not much problem swapping out the belts...

Want to replace motor brushes...any tips on this

I need to also, so please post what you learn. I found several examples for other WMs on YouTube (search brushes carbon washing machine) Note, I was able to get my Bosch Axxis WFL 2060 spin working again with the following quick carbon dust cleaning trick:
1) Unplug WM and tip up to a 45 degree angle and then safely stabilize so you can safely access motor from bottom. No need to take off back or disconnect motor.
2) Using a small tool like a 1/4 allen wrench or medium screwdriver start tapping repeatedly (for 2 mins) on the brush holders, and back metal clips that connect to the brushes, your just moving the dust around really.
3) Next using an alcohol damp cloth clean the motor commutator - on this motor it is easily exposed on one of the sides 90 degrees away from, and in line with brush holders. Hold cloth on commutator and turn motor, this will also make it clear if commutator is damaged. You cloth should be pretty dirt after 2-3 rotations.
Repeat 2 and 3 above a few more times cleaning up all the carbon dust off the commutator and around the brushes.
After that tip down and test again. A more thorough cleaning could be done by removing brushes and cleaning em - but this will buy you a few weeks/months of operation.

My hoover washing machine wont spin. I have tested the motor and this is fine. What else could it be?

If you have checked condition of carbon brushes in motor and they are ok.Check the valve at the back of drum(turn of and disconnect power supply) this valve is situ at the bottom of rear of drum. it may look like a small plastic bottle with a rubber pipe that goes up to the top of machine. undo clip and pull it out carefully, use a pipe cleaner to clean out inside of drum and wash and rinse out valve. Replace in order of dismantling. only a small job. One tip if you can is to tip machine backwards draining out any water and gunge from back of drum after cleaning out. Good luck, and let me know how you get on.

Whirlpool washing machine makes alot of noise when spinning help

I assume you are talking about a loud thunking with the washer trying to walk around the room. This is usually caused by an unevenly distributed load of clothes in the drum. Try moving the clothes around, like a towel or jeans on this side and the same on the opposite side. If this doesn't do it, it is time to check the springs that anchor the bottom of the drum/motor/transmission assembly. There is an access panel near the bottom of the cabinet on either the front or rear side (depending on model).
