SOURCE: burning wire smell

Hello jvtmad1,
All of the previous comments are relatively good ideas but let me offer some additional advice,
First off, You need to determine if the burning smell is coming from the Microwave itself or from the receptacle that provides power to it. Most wall receptacles are rated for 15 amps and should easily handle your microwave ovens power requirements. A simple check might be to run a hair dryer on the same receptacle without the microwave plugged into it. They draw comparable power so that should eliminate the recptacle as the culpret, On the assumption that the burnt wire smell is coming from the microwave itself, then your best bet is to return it to the store for a repair or replacement. Unless you are properly trained on how to sservice that, you probably shouldn't attempt it. As stated in previous comments, it should still be under warranty. If you have a bad filament transformer, magnetron or the wiring between them, that is not something you want to fiddle with yourself.
In summary, eliminate the receptacle on the wall as being the problem first.
If you find tha your receptacle is the problem, then you may be able to remove or disable power to it by switching off teh appropriate circuit breaker or fuse.. then take off the face plate and check the integrity of the wires going to that receptacle and making sure they are tightly secured to the terminals of the receptacle. I would assume that if that were the problem, you would notice a burnt smell as soon as you took off the face plate. Hope some of thes ideas help you resolve your problem...
Regards,
Rick

SOURCE: MAGNAVOX TV BURNING SMELL TV WENT POP AND WENT OFF

Well that pop had something to do with the power components inside the TV frying. I would have to say there is nothing you can do to repair it as its dangerous to work on such things.
I wouln't waste my time bringing it to a repair shop they will probably tell you to just buy a new one.

When I turn on the broiler it smells like plastic burning

check the bottom of the oven to see what's down there and clean it out. Check the broiler coils themselves to make sure they are not coated in something. Things that smell like burning plastic, often are, which is poisonus. Also things that smell like burning plastic often cause spontanious electric fires, which are WAY dangerous. Figure it out before using the broiler again. The life you save could be your own.

Why does my vax power 2 cylinder hoover make a noise and smell of burning rubber when I turn it on we have cleaned inside and out and all filters

That is the smell of perhaps burning insulation when there is excessive current going into motor. If something in unit is binding the motor will not spin fast enough, generate less back emf, use more current, overheat and burn out!!!!!!!!!!!

If it has a drive belt and that is rubbing up against something and not turning properly that will also cause the smell.

Do not use unit in this condition -you risk permanent damage.

Vax v-091 burning smell and clunking noise

Is there something stuck inside, underneath, being turned along with the motor? burning smell usually means something got caught and the belt snapped. Not expensive and don't know if it's an easy DYI. Shouldn't cost too much to have it repaired or you can google the brand and model and the word belt, see what you find.

Smell something burning inside Dell desktop tower.

Is the computer under warranty? If so, take it back.

Otherwise, open it up and follow your nose - find out what burned inside it and try replacing that.

T.V. TURNS OFF

Sounds like somethings over heating if you smell something. The wise thing to do if you know nothing at all about the tv repair is to call someone unless you feel convident enough to open it and look around very carefully and see if you can describe whats over heating or burning as if you keep turning on the set and it keeps smelling it will burn something out thats not burned out now.
