Dyer won't start

I have a maytag dryer that won't start. I've disasmbled the whole thing to see if a wire broken. I am able to jump the door switch with wire to the frame of the dyer and everything works fine. As soon as I take the wire off the frame it stops and nothing works. Do I have short somewhere? Any ideas on where to look?

No shorts or you would be blowing fuses or tripping breakers.

Check that the door switch is properly functioning, an d then, there is a thermal fuse connected to the Common terminal of the door switch to line neutral or ground that has probably opened. P/N Y700502. I can't tell where it's located or what it looks like. They are usually about 1/2 inch long, 1/8 inch diameter, and look like a silver bullet.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details. Thermal Fuse The thermal fuse helps to prevent a dryer fire by shutting off power to the dryer if it overheats. If the dryer won't start check this fuse first. Test the thermal fuse with an ohm meter or continuity checker. This is the most common part to fail when the dryer won't start. Once the thermal fuse has blown, it has to be replaced. It can not be reset.

Maytag dryer 2003 was working great I took one dried load out put another in and started the dryer. Working just fine then I found a wet garment that I dropped so I opened dryer door added this item...

When your dryer won't start, it could be a number of problems from a broken door latch or start switch to an exhaust duct blocked by lint. It could even be a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

The first step in troubleshooting any electrical appliance is to ensure that it is plugged in and receiving power. While dryer plugs do not come loose easily, it can happen.

For more troubleshooting tips, read Dryer won't start for possible causes, signs to look for and things you can do. I hope this helps!

Dyer turns on and sounds normal goes through whole cyle and never heats up

I had that happen. On one, the heat sensor needed replacing. On another, the heating element wire was broken and I had to replace the whole wire.

HI, check the following to address this issue you are experiencing.

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Maytag Performa Dryer will not start....

Hi West!

Yeah... I know what's happening. Pull all the tape and reconnect all those wires, OK? The problem lies in the thermal overload. It's located on the heater can and below the element terminals. See it down there? It has 2 white wires going to it. When this thing blows, it shuts the whole machine down.

Here's the thing, OK? This is a high limit thermal overload and when this thing trips off, it means that there's another problem... specifically an air flow/ventilation problem. So you can jump out the overload to verify my diagnosis, but don't leave it like that. Google: Dryer fires and check out the video about half way down.

So... yeah, you could jump it and make your dryer work... but you have another issue to deal with after that. Your vent is clogged. Call a chimney sweep or a duct cleaning service to get all that stuff outta there.

Seriously... when your ventilation is obstructed there is a very serious fire hazard present. Please clean your duct work.
