Question about Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

The compressor on my Sears Coldspot is running at 175 degrees.

Model 63141. Everythings runs fine and is plenty cold, but I noticed the compressor was hot when I last cleaned behind the unit. Is this a fire danger? What is the correct temperature of a compressor? Thank you.

Refrigeration compressors used in domestic refrigeration are known as high side compressors, meaning the dome is at high side pressure and temperature.

As long as the condenser fan was running, and the coil was as clean as you could get it, then all is OK. There is no standard temperature that it runs at, and it has been tested to run hot anyway. The fact that you cleaned underneath will allow it to run a little cooler anyway.

If it's cutting off at too high a temperature it is a good possibility the probe is faulty. However if the compressor is not cutting off at all, suspect short of gas.

Kenmore Coldspot mod 106 refrigerator shut down 2 weeks ago, started on its own 4 days later,3 days after that dead again

could be several problems, i would begin by checking to see if the compressor is actually running, if it is you will feel heat and vibration, if not running check the defrost timer or the compressor start device. if you are unfamiliar with what i am asking, call for service.
Sears offers a Service Smart Agreement for around 300 that will include necessary repair now and 1 yr warrenty.

Your problem is almost surely caused by the failure of the fan that should circulate cooled air from the freezer section to the refrigerator. If you check for vents, normally in the rear of the fridge, and hold your fingers in front of them while you hear the compressor running, you should easily feel cold air coming from them if the fan is running.
To determine whether you want to have it serviced or replace the fan yourself, try entering your model number on the Sears PartsDirect website to see if your unit is one of thousands of non-Sears appliances in their library. If they do, then you will find an illustrated parts drawing with part numbers.

I own a Kenmore Coldspot 106.71182101 and the refrigerator is now warm while the freezer is perfectly cold and holding it's temp. What can I do about the refrigeratornot being cold?

A common problem; the fan which should circulate some of the cooled air into the fridge is not running. You can verify this while the compressor is running by wetting your fingers and holding them near the vents in the back of the refrigerator. If you cannot detect any air flow, the fan is dead.

Go to Sears parts website and enter your model number. Especially since it is Kenmore, it should bring up a line-drawing and parts list for your model.

You can then decide whether it is accessible enough for a DIY replacement or if you would rather call a service company to replace it for you. Check with your local BBB to pick a reliable service company.

Unplug the Ref for 15-20 min., plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will need to be behind the Ref so you can tell if the compressor or the fan is running. It will help to take the cover off so you can see the compressor.
Compressor not running but you hear a clicking noise. The relay needs to be replaced.
Compressor runs but not cooling. Low on coolant

Check the condenser where heat is removed from the system. Look under the front behind the toe plate under the door. Use a vacuum crevasse tool to get into the narrow places to draw out the dust and lint. Make sure the fan under the refrigerator is running. You can remove the bottom panel in back to observe the fan operation. Listen for sounds at the back like a hum and a click. Check the compressor to see if it is hot and running. If the compressor is cold you may have a control problem.
