How the heck do you clean this dish heater?

This dish is on it's 3rd winter and I just can't bare to run the thing without cleaning the dust it accumulates. It's all on the inside back panal. My husband says...after close inspection...that he guarantees taking the rear screws out won't help. Although we have BOTH have studied the front of it and cannot find a way to remove it short of bending the thing...I compromised and said I would look online. He's out snow blowin'...we just moved to Upstate New York from Arizona. I'd love to get him warm when he comes inside...We usually use propane but after finding the price of propane went up A LOT a few days ago, we've been trying the heat dish again...Thanks...

I have 3 of these heat dishes and I can't figure out how to get the front off to clean them either. Anyone know how to get the front off without hurting the heater.

Just use and air compressor and blow the dust out with compressed air.

Compressed air only takes care of dust; what about other dirt that has managed to get stuck inside the dish?

Ran into the exact same problem and like you, saw the front isn't removeable. We had a duster that worked that I will try to describe. The duster has those long, fluffy strands that are micro-fiber or something that dust is supposed to cling to, and although it did not look as though it would fit through the grid, it did. Ours has lime green strands and a fairly long black plastic handle for reaching high places. I wish I knew the brand name or even what the thing is called--sorry!

Use an aerator spray as used on computer kyboards. Works fine.

How do i Clean presto heat dish

It all depends on the how much dust has accumulated on inside of the dish.

Try to use the Swiffer first before mechanically altering any part. Slide the duster in through the grate, and move it around. Pull it out and repeat on the other area. You'll just have to do this around 3 times.
If heavy clean is necessary, then you might have to resort to bending the lip of the dish to separate the grate off from the dish.

IMPORTANT: make sure the unit is unplugged and cool down before attempting any of these cleaning methods.

I would definitly try to give your heater a through cleaning before before giving up on it. Remove screws that hold back cover on and remove cover. There shoulb be a fiter directly behind it,remove it and give it a through cleaning. I don't know on the new ones if the filter is made of foam material, the older ones like mine are.It is safe to wash them in warm water and a little dish soap. Rinse fully and pat dry. Clean any lint, hair, dust or any other foreign material from fan motor. Blow it out with compressed air if you can. You can use a tooth brush to clean around motor shaft and air ports on motor. You can use a couple of drops of fine grade machine oil on motor shaft, such as 3 in 1 oil or WD-40. Wipe off excess. Lightly brush heating elements and reassemble. I hope this works for you. RE: Presto Heat Dish buzzer going off

I almost threw my heater out! I cleaned this morning with Window Cleaner and it works just fine now. It was just dust. I cleaned the round metal area not the coils.

Hope this helps.

Emailed Presto about replacing the buzzer and here is the answer I got:

There is no such part. Buzzer sounds when heater:
- is tipped
- rests uneven on floor
- is too close to furniture or wall
- has too much dust on parabolic dish
The most common reason is that the parabolic dish is dusty.
To clean the heater:
1. Unplug the heater and clean it when it is cool
2. Spray a cloth with an all-purpose cleaner such as 409
3. Wrap the cloth around a long handle such as a wooden spoon
4. Wipe between the grate from the outer edge to the center

Will not stay on

Hi There
OK here's what you do.You need to take off cover there's one screw on each side take those out and the front will raise up. Take a can of air and blow everything clean.around the lines back off it, pilot lite where u see dust. Reason i say this because i got the same heater as yours and i clean it every year before winter to make sure i use it. My heater did the same thing and i clean it and it work fine then i done the same thing every year. I don't have the problem no more. Hope this helps you in the right direction. Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best regards Richard

Lasko heater run about 5 minutes and shut down/how to clean

i have the same problem ... i almost throw this heater out ,,
the fix .. open the unit theres 6 screw at the back.. remove it if you have problem removing the triangle screw use the small square head screw ...size 0 and then you also need to open the black plastic ..
i believe it has 8 screws .. then vaccuum all the dust .. chances are the front and the back of the heating element is covered with dust ..
after that put all back together and i guaranteed it should work like brand new ,,,, dont worry its not that hard ... the only hard thing for me was removing the 2 triangle screws at the back .. Goodluck

Have a problem

Over the summer months dust gets into the ODS safety pilot. You must blow out the dust and whatever is diminishing the dlame ans causing the premature shutdown. CLICK HERE for photos of where you must clean.

Cleaning the dish on my Presto space heater.

I pried the upper rim with needle nosed pliers --,just enough to get the grid off. After cleaning with Mister Bubbles, I popped the grid back in and bent the rim back down. I then took a hammer and
smoothed the rough edges. Looks almost like new!!
