Question about IBM ThinkPad T42 Notebook

1 Answer

I have delayed keystrokes and programs that are slow to load. I could not find spyware or viruses. I defraged the computer and attempted to find updates for the keyboard. This is an 18 month old Dell laptop with 80% of disc space available and 896 MB of RAM

Everything is running extremely slow have done disk clean up and defrag and cleared out some programs that i dont use but still is runnig slow how can I fix this??

These are symptoms of a virus or a spyware program, have you run a full system scan for any of this type of malicious software (virus's and spyware) Norton Internet security is a good choice.

Uninstall everything that you don't use anymore. Otherwise it is just going to be slow.

My laptop is getting more and more slow

It seems that:-
1. You have lot many programs pre-loading on startup and you are running out of RAM.
2. There's a virus (memory resident) that is duplicating itself on a particular keystroke or on opening a certain program or accessing a certain file or folder.

Q1. What's your OS. (Windows XP, Vista, 7, ???)
Q2. What Antivirus are you using?
Q3. Do you maintain your HDD by defragmenting it at least once in 6 months?
Q4. Do you perform a Scandisk / chkdsk whenever you feel that the unit is slowing down?
Q5. Do you often visit sites full of malware & spyware?

I think you shuold be able to Answer the Questions yourself because the answers lie in the questions.

Also there are quite a few anti-spyware / malware / script blocking software like SpyStopper Pro v5 available on the net. I think you should install it.

Anything you didn't follow, feel free to write in again.

My computer is really slow going into differnt sites....the compressor fan is slow to start up...had my computer stripped down and tuned up, but it's still slow...they said the cpu is showing its age,...

Your computer going slow could be for the following reasons: 1 Not enough RAM - remove unwanted files by cleaning the disc. Also defragment the computer. Increase the RAM 2 Virus - remove the virus 3 If you do the above you will see the improvement and no need to have a new cpu

Can you check if you have problems with your internet connection?
How about your browser? i recommend using mozilla firefox browser because i assure that it it the fastest browser.

If you have no problems with your internet connection probably you may want to check if your device are working properly.

The type of Internet connection you use is the most important factor in determining your connection speed. The three most common ways to connect to the Internet from home are dial-up, DSL, and cable. If you have a choice, cable is usually the fastest, but both DSL and cable are faster than dial-up.

The health of your computer can affect your Internet connection.Spyware and viruses can definitely cause problems, but your Internet connection speed can also be affected by add-on programs, the amount of memory the computer has, hard disk space and condition, and the programs that are running.
Two of the most frequent causes of poor Internet performance are spyware and viruses. Spyware can slow your system by interfering with your browser and monopolizing your Internet connection. Spyware monitors your Internet use and keystrokes, which adds delays. The problem is compounded when there are multiple spyware programs running at the same time. If the problem is severe enough, you can lose connectivity altogether. To get your Internet performance back, you should regularly run an antispyware program to clean out any spyware infestation.

Computer viruses can also cause poor Internet performance. When a virus infects a computer, it installs computer code which will attempt to propagate itself, usually by sending copies of itself through e‑mail. Some viruses can multiply at the rate of hundreds of e‑mail messages per minute, which leaves little computing power and Internet connection bandwidth for anything else. Viruses often do not give any obvious indication that they are running, so it is best to run your antivirus software at all times.

Thank you : ) i hope my information works.
Please pm me if none of the options work. :)
