Question about Xerox WorkCentre M20i All-In-One Laser Printer
That is not true i work as a IT Spec for the Kentucky Army National Guard and we have over 20 M20I series printers in which we have set up to scan to email. None of these printers are hooked up directly to the computer and they all have the ablity to scan to email. if you printer dose not seem to have the ability they you will probally just need to update the os. Here are the steps to get it set up.
some web sites may not allow you to suer this function one alternitive is to set up a local smtp server on your network and create a mail box for yourself then you will just need to put your smtp server address in the instructions listed in step 8. I hope this helps.

I currently manage 350 Xerox devices on the NGB network for the Texas National Guard. It is not possible to Scan to e-mail without an internet connection and a SMTP server. You can, however, scan to desktop when your device is hooked up via USB. The above poster is wrong. The scan to e-mail function does with with a standard CAT5 plugged into the ethernet port. You just have to configure the TCP/IP, LDAP and SMTP configuration properly on the device.

The scanning on a M20i can only be done with the USB or Parallel port. I have worked on those for years and they only work with those 2 ports. It is not designed to work with an Ethernet connection. Believe me I wish it did, would save tons of problems. I have talked directly to engineers at Xerox and their answer is , it is what it is. Frustrating.

Make sure that you go to the web interface on the WorkCenter and specify a usable DNS Primary and Secondary. This is not an option that you can set on the physical unit. In addition, make sure that you set the proper SMTP user ID and Password as you would on Outlook or other e-mail clients.
