42dpc85 My tv recently started making a clicking or pecking noise. Its coming from the back of the tv and looking at the back, its near the top of the unit and slightly right of center. Any idea as to what this noise is and what can be done to make it stop? It does not appear to have affected anything else, still have picture and sound.

Re: 42dpc85

You have to repair this ASAP, otherwise the next step is going to be black spots here and there and then a black screen with sound. It happened to us and the TV guy said it was only an annoying noise and nothing else. When the TV started getting black spots everywhere we checked with another TV guy and he said that bcs we didn't repair the clicking sound in time, the consecuence was the black spots we are getting now. Of course Toshiba won't do anything so they lost our business too.

Re: 42dpc85

You have a cap on the powersupply going bad. it can be replaced but you will have to take the back of the unit apart to find out witch one it is. look for one that is swelling at the top.

Where is the cable port to put in the back of the tv

The 42DPC85 is erroneously refferred to as a television when it is in fact a monitor; ie. it has no built-in tuner. You will have to connect a VCR to the monitor and use the VCR's tuner for cable or antenna viewing. You may notice that the monitor does not have any 'channel' buttons.
The remote that comes with the monitor has 'channel' buttons but they are for external devices.

Green/ red pixels on screen. tv making annoying

If the unit has not previously had the PSU or Y-SUS boards replaced prior to this issue. Then it sounds like the voltages are off on one of those two boards. There is a process for checking those voltages and trying to adjust them. If those boards were recently replaced I would say the tech did not check voltage accuracy. But if it just happened out of no where go with the Y-SUS board as the problem. I say that because the unit powers on.

My tv turns off by itself and makes a clicking noise

Most likely it has some bad capacitors in the power supply. Flat--panel sets are VERY hard on capacitors, due to the fact that the "rising heat' from the set "cooks" the caps and they fail VERY early.

Panasonic 50 inch plasma

You should call for warranty service. If the set is very new try to get it exchanged.

There are some very heavy duty power supplies and many high power matrix drivers used in Plasma sets.

The description sounds like the noises are very loud. It is normal with any of these TV sets, if you put your ear right up to the back of the set at the vent holes you will hear some noises. These would be some acoustic harmonics from the power supplies and related circuits.

I am wondering if it is possible that there is something that is becoming less stable. If the set is working very well without any failure, so-far this is a very good sign. Before it gets to be a problem, I would have this checked.

On many models of these sets, they use fans for cooling specific areas. A bad fan can cause noise.

Green and red static on screen

Hi KCsmooth, try to check the following b4 u toss it. At the back of your tv (without the cover), you'll find sticker with a voltage ratings written on it. They are stuck somewhere d top portion. Look for Va voltage and Vs voltage coming from the pwr supply. check and adjust if necessary.Trimmer pot somewhere on the pwr pcb board if needs to adjust. Marked Va adjust or Vs adjust.

Good Luck.
