Question about Tomtom One Europe v2 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Seeing only a red blinking cross after an update

After updating my Tomtom ONE Europe V2 (for the first time) it now hangs. I am seeing a red blinking cross and a tiny disc in the corner. I assume this means I am not allowed to touch the device, however it stayed that way for a long time so I tried to reboot and disconnect anyway.
Nothing works now, it just keeps showing this red cross.
The update process said it was "done" and that I should reconnect the device, i've done exactly as described I believe, but what do I do now?
Is there a way to factory reset or patch it?

Hi thanks for answering. I don't see a pin hole, but I found that reinstalling the application like this worked...:

Sorry wrong Question.......I'm really frustrated right now. I have a TOMtom XL 30 Series that will now show nothing but a Big Red X when I plug it into my Truck.....HELP !!!!!

It is quite common tomtom bug.
Do: 1. backup restore or 2. copy all original SD files to your new formated SD card. Restart TomTom and see if it works.

730T - tomtom home hangs when checking for updates - mac

Hi - have had the same problem - if you look on the tomtom website and support they have a list and one is flashing red cross. You need to follow the steps to format the tomtom. I did this and it worked and it included the update. i havent reconnected since i have it working now. I think its a software problem with HOME. Make sure you do a back up on home and make sure you follow step by step. close HOME before you start to reformat and also in the preferences turn off the automatically connect to home when you plug into your computer or it keeps flashing up on the screen to correct. the only solution is to format it. i bought mine two days ago and the first one stuffed up so took it back for a replacement. this one worked when i turned it on but turned out the flashing cross appeared when connected to computer (i have a mac). good luck

Before all, make a backup of device thrugh explorer or similar.

On the same link;
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=red+cross&FID=1898

longer down on the page, you will find:

What if the device still doesn't start?

If your device still only shows a cross after you turn it on, try formatting the internal memory or memory card of your device.
Please follow instructions carefully...

Tomtom 1 (new edition) map of europe

I think you'll find that you can download it from tomtom home, with full technical help online & on the phone.

I dont advise COPYING it from a friend as you will get a symbol appear on the screen with a tomtom SD card with a large red cross through it, indicating that the tomtom knows its not a genuine copy.

TomTom One Europe

What is happening is your map updates are being copied onto your memory card without overwriting the old maps hence you are running out of memory.

In the tomtom home browser you should be able to delete your old map before installing the new one. Make sure you have a back up of the map card before you try this though so you can reinstall if something goes wrong.

Also have you replaced the voice prompts on your tomtom? The voice files take up a lot of memory so if you have put new ones one without removing the old ones you will be wasting memory.

There is one window in TThome that lists eveything installed on yuor card so have a good look at this and see what you can get rid of.
