Thank you for the quick response.  How do i know which chips are the convergence chips?  are they marked or do i need to get a schematic for the TV.  If i need a schematic, where do i get one.  I am do not know anything about fixing this but I know someone who can if i let them know what to solder.  Also, am i re-soldering chips or amps, you made reference to both.  Sorry if it is a ridiculous question but like i said, i don't know much about electronics repair.

    Thanks again.

1 more thing i noticed, when i took the front panel off i saw what looked like sticky liquid on the circuit board, after doing some research it looks like a crt cooling leak might be happening.  How difficult is this to fix?  I found coolant online and need to know what to use to seal the tube.  I saw something about RTV sealant, where to i get this?  could this be my problem instead of needing to re-solder convergence chips or is this a separate issue?

    Thanks in advance
    Joe

This is a common problem on projection sets and if you have someone carefully resolder the pins of the convergence chips, it will probably solve your problem. If you continue to use the set, the amps will fail and leave a dead set condition. What needs to be done is to disconnect the power, remove rear cover, loosen all snug wiring making sure to mark any wires that you disconnect, remove screws holding chassis in and undo plastic hooks at front of chassis, access bottom of circuit boards and with low wattage soldering iron resolder convergence amps, reinstall chassis and rehook all plugs in original places especially ground wires and high voltage leads, and test. If the soldering iron is too powerful it will damage the chips, also, be sure each solder joint is clean and not touching the one next to it or you will fry circuitry. Hope this helps. Russmann.

Glad I could be of some help. The convergence I.C.s or (chips) are stereo amplifiers which in your set perform color alignment duties instead of audio functions. These two I.C. chips are located on the largest metal brackets standing on the circuit board known as "heatsinks". There are locatiion numbers for each component on the circuit board and the location numbers for the convergence I.C.s are IC8D01 and IC8D02. The generic number stamped on the side of the parts is STK392-110. I really do have to suggest having a professional tech. do this repair. Saving a little money may cause you to have to replace the tv if not done properly. Of course, my opinion and help is free..... You're welcome, Russmann.

Well, that changes everything. Coolant leaking from the tubes can cause anything in the set to fail depending on what it drips on. This is a major repair even for an expert. We use dawn dishwashing liquid and warm water to clean the circuit boards then put it in front of a fan to dry.(Scrub with brush). Resealing the tube can be real tricky, especially if the expansion chamber is what burst to cause the leakage. If this is the case and the rubber expansion baloon has busted, silicon rubber will do you no good. Only if the seal around the face of the tube has failed is silicone sealant going to help. Look very closely with good lighting for the leak before spending more money on it and check on the board for corrosion or burnt components. It's probably time to call a local pro on that brand and ask for their advice.Good luck, Russmann.
