Question about GE Advantium SCA1000H Convection / Microwave Oven

GE Advantium SCA1000 not heating

I have a GE Advantium model SCA1000DWW03 (manufactured September 2002) unit that is not heating after having a local appliance repairman install a new GE OEM door yesterday (our old door had a cracked handle). I find it ironic that our Advantium worked properly up until the door was replaced. From what I've read so far, it appears that a door switch(es) may be the culprit. Based on the current state of my unit does this make sense or is there some other likely root cause? Currrently, the interior light, hood vent exhaust fan, and exterior "over range" light appear to work properly. When I shut the door and attempt to microwave or speedcook something the display time starts counting down but there is no heating taking place inside the unit nor the associated typical noise. It doesn't appear that the turntable is running either. No heat/power features work at all including microwave, speedcook, or oven. I appreciate your help.

That would be 'the primary interlock (top door switch), or its mount may be loose or cracked.

It may be a coincidence, or not. Hard to say.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

But it could be misalignment from the door work. Too bad he didn't just replace the door handle. That's such an easy job.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

It's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

I have an Advantium 240 mounted over the range. There's a little trap door that covers an interior light while cooking. My door gets stuck and I hear a motor run. How can this be repaired?

That's the damper. It has to be closed when microwaving, and open when convection cooking.

GE Advantium 120 SCA1000DWW03 blowing 20amp fuse

Our unit was doing the same thing,
took it into the repair shop, they said there was nothing wrong with the unit, replace the main breaker that supplies power to microwave and try again.
Sure enough the breaker became defective, and we never had issues with it before, but now the unit has not had a single problem.

Chances are you have a bad secondary / cook relay on the control circuit board. The relay can be replaced. See details here.

The turntable of my Advantium microwave model SCA1000 has stopped turning. It will sometimes move very sluggish but when the plate is on will not turn at all. Can you tell me what needs to be done to fix...

The Turn Table motor needs to be replaced in the oven, this will require dis-assembly to get at the part, and please remember there is dangerous high voltage present if you are going to do the work yourself.

Need to know how to remove Advantium 120 convection/microwave oven Model SCA1000DWW03 from mounting above stove so that it can be taken to repair shop - problem is completely dead after power surge during...

Usually there are 3 or 4 mounting bolts located in the floor of the cabinet above. First you will have to disconnect the power and then the duck work if the unit is ventde to the outside. To remove the unit requires two people, one to support the unit and the other to remove the bolts. If you are doing it alone, quite difficult, you'll have to juryrig a deadman support. Ther is a wall plate behind the unit that has a lip that the back bottom of the microwve is locked into. After the bolts are removed slowly lower the front until you are able free the unit from the lip of the support plate.

GE Advantium SCA1000 will not come on

If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

If that doesn't help then there might be a burned wire or a component that can only be found out by opening it up, which is not recommended.

Please rate the solution if you found it helpful.

Need to Replace Door Handle for KitchenAid Over Range Microwave Hood Combo KHMS147KSS

Check out this door frame diagram, specifically number 1805. It clips on to the door frame. Remove it using a dull table knife or something similar (be careful not to scratch or break anything). You will then have access to the bottom screw.

Advantium Power Out

Same Problem - baking when all power appears to go out - but the AC power is plugged in and it is good: This is a known manufacture defect for the Advantium 120 model SCA1000. But, don't expect Sears or GE to take care of you. Short version: A Thermister that cost under $1.00 to manufacture and is known to be defective in this and other products needs replaced. But, the schematic, the GE Repair Center, and local GE repair center don't document things right and don't have the part. I won't buy GE again since they can't control the manufacture of fire safety standards in the Korean plants. This part will be defective after about 3 3/4 years of being plugged into the wall. So much for your optional 3 year warranty! Read the entier solution before trying this at home: 1. Remove the button front panel where the display is at. The ribbon cables to the front panel will allow room to peer inside. There is an envelope taped to the side with the schematic. 2 On the Schmatic Diagram (not the wiring diagram) on the bottom see CN6 - with two thermistor. Now look at your actual wiring. Guess what! GE did not even put the right wiring diagram in your maicrowave! GE shows a 3 wire device. Actually you will find 2 different 2 wire devices! Thanks GE, I took the part and the schemetic to an Authorized GE repir parts store. They checked with the GE parts manager in Dallas. After paying the GE shop $49.87 for the part order, after 6 follow up calls and 3 weeks, they send the wrong part on the schematic, not the part that I brought in that is actually in the oven. 3. The part that is bad in your oven is a thermister that cost about $0.14 to make. There are two of them. There is two wires that attach to them. If your unit overheats, it shuts down the power for safety. What happed is that one of the two thermisters is opened (defective). They are screwed on to the service to detect heat. The numbers on the can are PW-2R (PWC PW-2). One of mine measures about 44 ohms, the other exact one is open (infinate resistance). It is two wires attached to a round cylinder about 3/8" wide - a bracket holds it against a flat surface with a single phillips screw. Its purpose is to detect heat, if things get too hot, it switches from on to off. When they go bad - it stays in the off position. The effect looks as if you don't have your microwave plugged into the wall. 4. Ordering the PW-2R. GE has no record of them. Thanks again GE! HP laser Printers used them on one model. This little part caused all of the printers to go bad. From an internet article, it appears that HP Printers no longer use this part. In the case of GE, it is my opinion that they got the microwave safety approved then switched out parts for manufacturing. Where is Consumer Reports when you need them? 5. I am still searching the Internet for a substitute part. One Sears repair person quickly (and unofficially) told me that it would be the Thermister, a known problem before I started. This is my worry: If the part is not available, and repair persons are making quick fixes (for about $100), that they are simply cutting and tying the connector together. In otherwords, they are taking out the safety feature rather than replacing the safety part. If I find the part, I will post it on here. But, after a couple of hours of searching, and checking with various part shops it does not look too good. It does not take much searching on the Internet to see that the GE Advantium is widely known for poor manufacturing standards and about a 4 year life-cycle. When one considers what it cost... it appears to be rated as a bad investment to trust GE applicances. By the way - the schematic and other parts indicate it is manufactured in Korea.
