Download the bios flash utility for the unit ( this is for these models (Opal M4004, M4008, M4018, MC4004, MC4008 and MC4018 Firmware ))

after downloading the executable you will want to run the tool, then while pressing the play button on the opal and plugging in the unit to computer at same time. Continue holding the play button till you get a little funky picture of a computer and device on your opal's screen ( or at least this is what mine does ). once the funky picture comes up you should be able to release the play button and let the bios flash utility do it's job from there. i have had mine decide to hang out for a while before running, but then again the tool does say it could take up to 5 minutes before successfully finding the device.

once it has fully gone through it's process your Opal should be able to start up again but unfortunate a part of the fix will also wipe the device day 1 clean.

hope this helps you out.

How to i play videos on a RCA M4204

Log onto the RCA website and download the RCA SMV Video Converter. The Opal only plays videos that are in one specific format. This converter will put your videos into that exact format (see Resources below).
Install the RCA SMV Video Converter once you have downloaded the software.
Open the RCA SMV Video Converter software to begin putting videos onto your RCA Opal.
Connect the RCA Opal to your computer using the USB chord that came with the device.
Wait until the RCA SMV Video Converter software reads that the device has been connected. You will know this when the bottom of the software screen reads “Player Detected: Opal 1GB 2GB.”
Select the “Browse” option to find any videos that are on your computer which you wish to add to the RCA Opal.
Click the box next to “Transfer output files to OPAL 1GB 2GB after conversion is complete” after you have selected all of the videos which you wish to convert. This will automatically add the videos to your RCA Opal after they have been converted.
Click the “Convert” box after you have selected all of the videos. The videos will automatically begin to convert to the correct format. Once they have been converted, your videos will automatically upload to your RCA Opal.

My mp3 won't charge at all

If when you plug into usb cable dose it show that a device was pluged in ? If it dosen't turn on then youre charging cable is bad. If cable isn't bad remove software from youre computer using remove programs, unplug opal from usb then reboot youre software for youre rca opal cd.

RCA Opal - Stuck on "Initializing"
(Update - the website changed once again to www.rcaopal.com)
Go to this website to reload the firmware:

Mine didn't recognize either, so what I did is go into the device manager, find the opal in the listings, double-click, disabled the device, re-enabled it, at which time it shows that there's a firmware error. I then re-installed the driver from the cd, unplugged the opal, plugged it back in, and for whatever reason, the computer then recognized the opal as a mass storage device, instead of a portable music player. The computer now sees it everytime, and all I have to do is drag and drop any files I want into the opal. Works like a charm. Hopefully RCA will provide an updated firmware program in the near future, but this might work for you for now. Good luck!
