Download the seagate HardDrive trouble shooting software to determine if the hard drive is really bad.

Sounds like your motherboard could be faulty. Probably needs repairing. Contact Acer or the store of purchase if you have warranty.

If its an annoying sound of a drive spinning up and then shutting down again and again, of it is accompanied by an annoying clicking sound; then the drive is definitely dead.

My PC (Win7) is not recognizing my GoFlex_Home 2T external drive. It did when I installed it but not now. Seagate Support has been of no help.

if it was recognised but not anymore, i would think the usb-controller board on the external disk is broken. see if you can find it in the bottom list of the disk manager by choosing "run..." from the start menu, in which you type "diskmgmt.msc" and hit enter. if the disk is not listed there, it is broken. if it is listed, you can manage it with the options you get when you right-click the drive in the list.

My wp3200p032 has crashed, i think.... it is still powered but not visible anymore on my computer. have i lost all my music and photo's???

Try right clicking on My Computer then click manage.
Under disk management your drive should show up. if not it might be in need of repair.
There are many ways to repair it most non DIY. It might be broken because the case connections are broken so you could try and get a new external hard drive case.

Hi there, genjie here, i would like to ask what type pf HDD would you recommend for my NEC versapro laptop? Before I have 40gb hdd, but it was broken due to unwanted files, i still keep on thinking if it...

The maximum size hard disk your laptop can support depends upon the BIOS chip in your laptop. My guess is probable max. size is 60Gb.
I do not think your hard disk is broken, especially if the laptop can boot up. You can delete your unwanted data files to recover some disk space. Don't forget to empty the Recycle Bin.
If you want a large hard disk (650 Gb) then get an external USB hard drive, plug this hard drive into the laptop's USB port and you can store your data files onto this USB hard drive.
If you need further assistance, please get back to me.

Usb input from hard drive to computer is broken

Will replacing the data-cable replace the broken-off piece?

If not, then for about $30, you can buy a new "empty" external case, and then "transplant" your current disk-space into the new case.
Take your current external drive to the computer-store, so that the new case that you buy will be the correct case for your existing disk-drive.

Of course, because you have a "small" (100GB) disk-drive, any warranty for the disk-drive probably has expired, and it would be good "preventative-maintenance" to buy a new external disk-drive, before your current disk-drive unexpectedly "quits" on you.

Possible cause:

  2. Hard disk connector not well in place.
  3. Hard disk broken, physical fault.
Solutions:

  1. Format hard disk and reinstall system using a Windows setup CD.
  2. If that does not work the Hard disk must be removed to check thge connector, and to test the hard disk on a different computer.

Broken plastic bit that connects the sata cable to the maxtor hard drive

Not really,if the retainer on the HDD is broken.
You could try embedding the sata cable to the HDD using a contact adhesive, but ensure none gets inside on contacts. This is only a qik fix but I have use in the past to get by.
