Display works - but only for a plit second...

HI all, and help (please!) My Dell 1703 works fine - for a split second at a time, then goes blank :-( Power light is still green, and if I turn it off and back on, I can see my PC desktop - for a split second until it goes blank again. Tried it with a few input sources, both VGA and DVI, and also with no input at all (the self test screen comes up for a split second then). Any ideas please? Thank you! :-)

Whilst that has made a change...

I now get the message (for a split second) 'In power save mode. Press a key on the keyboard or move mouse'
Neither of which then wakes it up.

Happens on both VGA and DVI.

Using a different monitor on the PC works fine.

    but thanks anyway! :-)

yep, think you may be right naju - off to either be repaired, or more likely the great big LCD graveyard.
Still - good excuse to get a nice new bigger one :-)

The problem is that your monitor has a safety mechanism to dim the screen considerably if it is being over powered. this however is home to the by far most common part to fail on these monitors and is tripped early. if you shine a strong torch on it you can see that the picture is just about there. to fix this, you need to replace some of the components in the power inverter board, namely the two pairs of c5707 transistors. if you do not have a clue how to do it i would suggest finding a cheap electrical engineer to help you

I think it is a problem with your power supply or or your monitor hardware. Try proper earthing and look for problems on your power connection to monitor.

Lower your resolution on your computer. Usually when that happens the resolution is set higher than what the monitor can support. Lower the resolution and try again.

Isolate the problem per above. Eliminate the monitor, split cable and software settings so that each, individually work. Then eliminate team board - do you have a spare?
It could mean sharing the monitor signal means weakens it so that one can display and the other does not work. Prove it with a different source computer. Don't know if buffer devices exist or how to increase input sensitivity.

Pleasec look through my albums so you will know what to look for.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

The power -inverter board probably needs an overhaul.
I redo many of these.
If the screen was pinkish or flickering before it finally got to this point, it is possible that a bulb has gone bad.

Bank Monitor problems

Unplug the cable from your PC, if the monitor shows a test image, the monitor is fine and the problem is with your graphic card. If you dont see nothing on-screen after unpluging the cable from the PC, then the monitor in damaged. Send it to repair.
