Emergency brake is engaged and i cant figure out how to release it? its a 1989 cadillac sedan deville

Hello, Look up under the dash next to the inside of the car, between the foot pedal for the park brake assembly, on the park brake assembly there should be a short lever, it may even be yellow on the end. pull it back toward you, that should release the park brake. The System is suppose to release automatically when you put the car in gear. It works off vacuum, the switch is mounted on top of the steering column and the actuator is mounted on the park brake assembly

How do you get the E brake off?

I don't know if I can explain this correctly but I'll try. Some cars that have a foot peddle that activates the emergency brake when foot peddle is compressed. If there is not a brake release handle directly above the peddle, it might have a kind of spring release. Try pressing down on the peddle hard and then move your foot off and out of the way and it might spring back and release that way.

Dumb question, How do I release parking brake on 88 DeVille? Thought there would be a lever somewhere but I can't find one Also, I've been told it needs premium gas. Is this true?

You have a car that was built withh all the bells and whistles you know. The emergency parking brake is not so sophisticated at all. Cadillac installed a vacuum pod to the release actuating lever which conjoins to the shift bowl. When you aplly your foot on the brake to shift the emergency brakes will release automaticly. If it will not release, the vacuum pod is at fault & will need a replacement. They are inexpensive at any Cadillac dealerships parts department.

Emergency brake stuck

Brake cables are probably seized as they do when not used regularly. You have to disconnect them and replace with new ones which requires removal of both rear wheels.Go here for the procedure.
