Question about Craftsman 16" High Garden Tractor Snow and Dozer Blade
I bought a single stage craftsman snowthrower from sears on Feb 12th, 2007 and less than a yr later i took it to the repair center coz, it was stalling out. The tech indicates that water got into the carburator and also the rubber on the auger has worn all the way to the steel......which needs replacement and it's gonna cost $212 to repair. Sears tells me that my manufacters warranty is not gonna cover this. How common is this problem?? Is this a bad model snowthrower? What's a reliable and durable name brand snowthrower out in the market today??
Good to hear you got it running anyway.
Look for a choke, maybe it's just running with the choke set. Could also be that it's all gummed up from sitting, if that is the case then some running should bring it out of it by the time you've put a couple of tanks of fuel through it.
Is this a two-stroke motor? If so, be sure you have your fuel mixed correctly- go by the manufacturer's statement concerning how much oil to how much fuel, never assume that the oil bottle directions apply to your machine because they probably don't.
Good luck with it,

If the blower (impeller) turns and the auger doesn't there is a 90% chance you broke the shear bolts that protect the auger gear box.
Look at your auger and you will find the bolts shown at the arrows in this picture are missing. Some snowthrowers will have two bolts and others like the new Craftsman will have four.
You can get new ones at your local mower repair shop, your local Sears mall store, or online at sears.com.
Use shear pins or shear bolts not regular bolts. The shear bolts are designed to break off so you don't tear out the front gear box.

It is belt driven, the belt is located between the chute and the engine behind the inspection cover some have it on the top and some on the bottom. That model may have to be split in half to get the belt past the shaft. But regardless it can at least be inspected by taking the cover off. Please let me know if this helps

Usually on the bottom of those there is a scraper plate on the bottom behind the auger this is made to wear out check to see if needs replacing.
