With power turned off and disposal unplugged (reach under sink), remove any rubber dampers in the throat of the sink drain by pulling on it.

Then, reach you hand into the disposal and remove any clippings that you can by hand.

Get a wooden dowel, like a broom handle or plunger handle, and lever against the cutter plate of the disposal and the side of the sink drain to get the disposal cutter plate to turn. Try both ways.

Once free, plug unit back in and try to run it. DO NOT PLACE YOUR HANDS NEAR THE DISPOSAL SINK OPENING! WATCH FOR FLYING OBJECTS COMING OUT OF THE DRAIN.

If all runs clear, replace the rubber part in the drain.

If it doesn't run clear, and the disposal hangs up again, repeat all of the above.

If disposal quits, there is a red reset button on the bottom that can be pressed to reset after the motor cools for about 15 minutes.

2) Insinkerator usually has 5 year warranty.
If unit is leaking, then replace with new disposal.
Waste King disposals have longer warranty, but local hardware sells Insinkerator/Badger for less.

My Badger 5 in sink erator is leaking at the bottom of the unit where the electrical wire is connecting tot the metal plate. When turned on, there is a humming noise but the blades do not spin. I have

Thier is an Allen key hole at the very bottom and center of the badger. Try using that with an Allen key. And if it leaks your from where your wires are coming out of your seal is probably bad. Means new badger

I need a new sink basket for my In Sink Erator, Model 5-81. Where can I get just the sink basket?

Disposal sink basket is not sold separately.
Go to local hardware and home center for returned defective disposal and then see if they will sell the basket assembly.
Be sure to get all the parts. Parts are generally universal, but the clip-on ring is sometimes missing and the old one might fit or not.
Contact insinkerator, and see if they have a box of spare parts at their factory in China:

I have the Badger 5 in sink erator under sink food disposer and it is leaking from a small on the bottom of the unit. How can I repair the unit?

Disposal is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
If you plug the hole, the motor compartment will fill with water and short out the electric.

Can i easily replace the blades of my badger 5 in sink erator? nothing really seems to be grinding up anymore. :(

Parts inside a disposal cannot be changed.
The motor may be getting weak and slowing down, which means a matter of time before it stops.
Disposals wear out and need to be replaced.
If stuff is not going down, the pipes under sink could be clogged and need clean-out

I wrote ez disposal replacement steps from when I worked apartment maintenance that also show how to disassemble pipes if you want to clean-out.

HOW TO FIX MY LEAKY SINK STRAINER THATS CONNECTED TO A BADGER 5 1/2 HP IN-SINK-ERATOR THANKS FOR ANY HELP REALLY APPRECIATED

You have to take it apart and re-apply plumber's putty ... some specialize sink materials require different type of sealer, but stainless and porcelain use regular plumbers putty from hardware or home center.

I wrote EZ to follow steps that cover sink strainer basket leaking:

Why is my badger .5 plus in sink erator leaking

One of your connections is either broken or missing a rubber gasket or a hose clamp. You have a lock ring on the top that basically bolts to the drain of the sink which is part of the disposal, IT has a rubber gasket or two on it, some have plumbers putty on the very top, the hose that goes from the dishwasher, if you have one, has a hose clamp on it, the drain line into the trap is a compression fit, needs to be tight, and it is usually bolted or screwed into the disposal itself with a rubber gasket. Check these out and tighten them up. Hope this helps.

In sink erator is leaking from bottom

I had this happen right before my disposal stopped working completely. Mine was leaking from the same place. The one I had was a 2 year Badger. They are easy to replace. If yours still works I would keep using it and just sit a pan down below to catch water. A new Badger 1 year cost $80 at Home Depot. If you get one, do not worry about buying extra gaskets or the black sink strainer thing because the new one will come with everything needed except for the plumbers putty. You will need plumbers putty. Good Luck
