Unable to install yahoo messenger with firefox

Hi Michael,
Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year. Sorry for being late to reply as I was busy with my family this weekend. Before suggesting you any solution I need to know a couple of things. Please reply asap.
1) Which Operating System are you using? (like windows XP, vista etc)2)From which website you are trying to download yahoo messenger?3)which internet browser are you using? (like IE,firefox etc)

the error message is clear, for some reason your computer is set to block the Yahoo messenger link.
here is what you can do: (for windows XP)
1. open Control panel
2. click on Security Center
3. click on Widows Firewall
4. click on the Exception tab
5. check if you have Yahoo Messenger there:
a. if not: click on Add and paste the follow: C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe
b. if it's there- make sure it is the same as C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe
if it is the same- click on Delete to remove it and try to install again.

Uninstall or disable any security software running on your computer. Try restarting your computer in safe mode with networking and then installing. If all of the above doesn't works and still you were getting message for firewall then either disable your Router's firewall by opening Router's page or Bypass router for a while and connect directly to Modem and then Install.

yahoo!7 messenger is unable to download files needed for installation. Please

check firewall settings and retry installation.
I found the answer its so simple, The problem has nothing to do with firewalls.

Yahoo instant messenger (yim) needs internet explorer 7 or above version to

enable yim to operate properly with the current yim versions. If you have an

earlier version of IE (I was using IE 6 coz I always use firefox and did not

have windows update enabled coz I did not want my windows operating system to be

revealed as it was copied and theredore not legit) So I disabled windows update

and kept using firefox, but even if you never use internet explorer, yim still

needs internet explorer 7 to operate without these errors shown above. I tried

to fix it for weeks thinking it was fiewall or such, but it just needed IE 7 so

I downloaded it here:

and even tho it says its for a windows server it still worked on my windows

XP pro 64bit and now yim is working properly, allowing multiple copies of

contacts etc, no problems at all now. I also downloaded firefox version 35,

which helps yim too coz its yahoo preferred.

It should not be necessary to adjust firewall settings.
If you have 'Speedbit' installed, lose it, (known conflicts with Yahoo)
Sounds like you may have tried to download without clearing out your browser or failed to check the Messenger file was empty before uploading your new messenger.

When downloading/uploading close all other programs.

I suggest you download and run ccleaner first before you proceed further. Run it through a couple of times - include "registry" from the left hand toolbar. Do not be alarmed at the amount of files you have to delete, especially if you do not clear it on a regular basis.

Use this path to uninstall and remove the old messenger software.
> Start > computer > local disc (C) > program files > yahoo > messenger > UNWISE.
UNWISE is the command that starts uninstall. Make sure the old messenger folder is clear before starting to download - I run Messenger 9 with no problems although I read here its "full of bugs," that's because its not been installed cleanly. Yahoo tell us its the best one to operate behind a firewall.
Check in the Messenger file after uninstalling to make sure no fragments of software remain that will create conflicts with the incoming software.
Delete shortcut on desktop
Download new freeware browser - mozilla firefox

Restart computer

Download the version of messenger you want using firefox

When downloading from filehippo avoid the adverts and use the green arrows to start downloads

Go to Start>Control Panel > Add or remove programs remove all the things related yahoo ( Yahoo toolbar, Yahoo mail advisor, Yahoo installer, Yahoo browser plus etc.) Try download and install then....If still same try download offline installer http://download.yimg.com/ycs/msg/dl/msgr10/us/b4/msgr10us.exe
if still you are having difficulty download old version like Yahoo messenger 8 or Yahoo messenger 7

The problem is with the Yahoo uninstall software which fails to clear the old Messenger folder out and creates conflicts with the incoming new software - Your firewall doesn't know whats happening and hoists a red flag. If you had not started to uninstall I would have recommend you download revo and uninstall with that.

bear this in mind if you manage to install messenger but still have problems
You have to go into your C drive and delete the left behind software
Click ( > ) Start > Computer >> Local disk (C) >> Program files >>Yahoo >> Messenger - if you have Vista the folder should be empty - if you have pre- Vista the only sub-folder remaining should be 'Profile' ( The message Archive file) manually delete everything except 'Profile' by right clicking and deleting. When finished restart your computer and finish the install

download a latest copy yahoo messenger, sometime when your yahoo messenger become old it cant log you in download from here... this link is standalone installer of yahoo
