Question about iRiver iFP-890 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Iriver 899 I have only one side of headphones or output jack, left side is very faint, fuzzy at best. I know through the process of elimination that it has to be some type of audio output problem because the files are unaffected. I contacted iriver direct and they said they don't repair out of warranty items.Found one, on their refurbish page, but now they don't sell them any more. I hope some one can help,I really did a lot of research orginally to find this unit(it was the only one at the time that had an analog stereo line-in that would record and store in MP3 format).........thanks JB

Re: iriver 899

The problem is the 2.5mm jack is the issue. they can be fixed but it will happen. the contacts are very thin bent pieces of metal.

I need desktop app to manage music for iriver

Support for the iRiver IFP-899 is on next site:

MANAGER connection type
In the second column next to GO, enter the word manager or select POPULAR KEYWORD.
On the page right side a list shows up.
Select the iriver music manager to see the information how to download and install the software. The manager for the computer matches the manager firmware in the player.

Low and bad quality sound by headphone port

sounds like an internal problem
like a bad connection
if you have the skill, you could pull it apart and resolder the parts around the earphone output jack
hope this helps!

ITouch 2nd g only plays music throuhg left side of all headphones

Try playing with the headphone plug, until you can also hear the right
channel and also try a different set of headphones as it is probably a
matter of an intermittent headphone jack, or plug, owing to sudden
snatching of the headphone plug from same, a very common problem.

Eliminate this cause before submitting your Touch for much more
expensive remedies

Headphone jack failure

Normal repair shop can't fix it
iRiver will not send you the headphone jacks, although you can purchase a broken iRiver on Ebay and obtain jacks for this purpose - be careful - you are risking other damage to player
You must get the entire player replaced
Sorry, but this is true of nearly all Mp3 manufacturers.
This is the only answer I can give you, because it is the only truthful answer.

My iriver headphone jack gives distorted or no sound at all sometimes. after jiggling the phones it seems to work but it soon moves again when i move everything else works well

Have you tried using different headphones? If they work, then the headphones you currently have may have some faulty wiring. If different headphones do not work, then there may be something wrong with the headphone port on the iriver.
If there is a problem with the headphones, the best solution would just be to buy new ones. It is much less of a hassle and much less costly. If there is a problem with the iriver's port, it would be best to take it to an electronics store and have them find out exactly what is wrong.

Cannot hear music

The bad news is that your headphone jack is most likely shot. The soldered connections inside are most likely broken. This is not repairable generally, at least not for a cost that would be reasonable. Music will play through your computer because it can be read off your player through the USB connection. Use it as a data storage drive and buy a new one, or a used one. I've seen used T30s on Amazon for around $30 to $40.
