Try putting the video/audio (red/white/yellow) cords to your VCR if already in the TV. If in VCR, then switch them to the TV.

How to use a surround sound with tv not just dvd

If you have cable/FiOS TV/SATV,than you will have to connect a digital(fiber optic SPIDF or RCA type) form the set-top box to the suuround-sound system to get TRUE surround sound.I haven't come across a TV with this ouput, but not sure if some do.(If you use RCA analog audio cords from the ouput of theTV itself to an input of the sound system it will work, but it will be a glorified stereo sound, not true surround sound.

TO GET SURROUND SOUND I NEED RCA CABLES WERE DO THEY GO ON MY TV

You won't get surround FROM your TV. It's just a lightshow device with bare minimum speakers and audio chops.

Get the TV-related audio from the same source IT IS WATCHING - Cable/SAT/DVD/BluRay/Game. Digitally, if possible. Otherwise you'll just get stereo analog sound.

No sound coming through

If the DVD player is seperate from the surround system and hooked up to the tv. You should have a wire from audio out on the tv to the audio in on surround sound. Some tv require you to turn off tv speakers inorder for it to be routed to the audio out. In which case you can do this in the menu.

Can TV Sound Come thru Sound System Speakers

if you have a digital rec the red and white output goes into the surround sound input, if you have basic cable, then you need to use the red and white output on your vcr to go into the surround sound input. just make sure to note which input you are using on the surround sound and switch it to that.

Sound

You may have your audio presets on your DVD too low. check your menu to make sure those presets are correct. As for Surround Sound it is a sound technique that involves having multiple speakers to give the impression of moving sound, not just hearing from the left or the right as in stereo, but hearing the way you are exposed to in real life sound moves around you this combines the doppler effect from many directions at once, example: as a car move towards you with its horn blowing the sound gets louder as it passes you the sound gets lower however, each of your ears hears the sound diferently, thats how come you can tell if the car is to your left or to your right vs coming straight at you and as it passes you, you can tell if the car is on your left or right from your rear. Surround sound is an attempt to do this without actual movement. I hope this helps.

Audio fade

if there is no problem with the surround sound, you have a problem with the volume regulation circuit or with the main amp of this TV set, But to say the least is you have a backup to fix your problem, with the sound system, you said it works fine. this could run ya about 250 to 400 to repair. Good luck.
