Question about Samsung RS2578BB Side by Side Refrigerator

I have a Samsung side by side with compressor MK183C-L2U. It is making this horrific noise. Not constantly, just throughout the day. What is causing this and can I fix this myself?

I seen this problem before this fridge is different from others because has tow evaporators Must likely your defrost heating element on the fridge side burn out and is letting ice to build up on till touch the fan blade and start making that sound now The problem is than the defrost heater element is build on the evaporator So the options are discharge the system and emplace the evaporator or what I do is Carefully cut of the old heating element install a generic one and a defrost thermostat and a mechanical defrost timer (8-10 hours) drill a hole to the back of the fridge and run a line from the back and the timer next to the control boar tapping the main power lines Now unless you are familiar whit electrical wiring and the defrost system of older fridges I don?t recommend to tray. Even must technicians would not dare do make modifications to a existing system. If you can?t do some thing like this what a recommend is turn the ?POWER COLD? off and see if gets any better .

How do I fix a Samsung refrigerator that started to make noise

Noise could signal a failing or worn motor/compressor unit or falling gas pressure but it is worth checking to ensure the motor is still secure and then the fridge is perfectly level and stable.

If the fridge has been laid down, during a house move for instance, it should stand for a few hours in it's new home before being switched on. Switching on too soon can deprive the compressor of lubrication with a resulting shortened life.

Compressor hot, draws 9amp tried hard start kit with no joy. used external 120vac windings not grounded, windings ~3 ohms ~ 8 ohms,

Dear Robert,
  • I am assuming you clean the coil.
  • Compressor may test out good electrically but has a mechanical failure inside.
  • Check the Run Cap.
  • Here is a link to the Service Manual.

Let me know the turn out.

The drain tube that runs down the back of the fridge into the tray that sits on top of the compressor is blocked, you need to clear this, you can either use compressed air and blow back up into the fridge of find a soft but stiff wire to carefully slide up the tube.

most likely there is something touching the body so try to lift the back side and if noise goes away put a block of wood under the unit

You probably have a bad compressor. It's internal parts are held up with 4 springs and one of them has probably broken and causes the compressor piston to hit the side of the comp. housing. This will happen when the ref. shuts off. To be sure, if you turn the ref off at the controls then you should hear the noise in the back. If it is less than 5 years old you can get it replaced under warranty. if more than 5 years old it will just be noisy. it will most likely last several more years like it is. Let me know if I'm right.

A constant loud rattling noise throughout most of the day and night from a KGN33V60 model, appearing to come from the freezer compartment, for a very long time. This is the third replacement model we have...

Lots of stuff can cause noise. The only moving part in the freezer is the fan. I don't know of anything else that moves. If ice build up is an issue, then there are several things to concider.

Not enough defrost time. Cycle too short or heaters are not hot enough for some reason. Could be undersized heaters from manufacturer.(?) Defrost timer could be bad causing short or no defrost at all. This timer also controls the defrost heaters and compressor being off during defrost.

Be sure the seal around the door is tight. No air gaps. Warm air (contains moisture) will cause freeze ups. Long shot is that the thermostat is bad and unit never shut off. If timer is bad, compressor coudl be running during defrost cycle.

Hope this helps

Freezer not working

sounds like the clicking noise could be the overload on the compressor. pull off grill cover on bottom front of refrigerator check to see if condenser coil if blocked with lint and dust if it is clean it throughly it could cause the compressor to overheat and cause the refrigerator to thaw and the overlaod to make a clicking noise. hope this helps you out

sputering and gurgling is a common complaint with lots of models. it is the surculation of the refrigerant thew the evapurator tubing behind the rear wall. make shure the units condensor underneathe the fridge is clean and clear of dust. it can cause the head preasure from the compressor to increase witch can cause excesive sound in circulation. hope this helps you

Electrical noise

If the noise from the compressor sounds like a humming followed by a click, the compressor is "short cycling". Could be either the compressor relay or the compressor itself is bad. Not sure on the hissing noise. Could be just a loose panel that needs to be tightened or adjusted.
