Do you mean that the whole keyboard is locked?

Most laptops use key combinations to enable/disable hardware features.

Some Acer laptops use the combination of 'Fn' and 'F11' to toggle the numeric keypad, and the combination of 'Fn' and 'F7' to toggle the touch pad. These combinations are documented in the manuals which can be downloaded.

MOUSE

If it's the touch pad, it may be locked.

Or you may need to find the drivers for it.

If it's locked, to unlock it, it should have a button above the touch pad in the center that has an LED above it. If it doesn't contain a button, your computer should contain a set of FN keys, the FN keys work in conjunction with your number keys. There should be a number key with an icon of something that looks like the touch pad. hold fn + that and it should unlock.

If these aren't the case your pad could be un-lactched from the ribbon, in that case you'll need to tighten it.

If that's not the case, it may be broken.

Emachines netbook unlock key pad

Key Pad or Touchpad? Is it that the mouse pointer is frozen and does not work? If so, look at the middle of the touchpad at the top of it and there might be a button there that lets you toggle the touchpad between locked and unlocked.

Sometimes there might be a set of keystrokes you will have to hit to lock or unlock the keypad. Most times you will have to Press and Hold the Alt, FN or Ctrl key then hit the key (most times one of the F1 thru F12 keys) that controls the keypad. The key that controls the keypad will have the icon of a finger inside or pointing at a square that represents the keypad. On one laptop recently that I worked on it was toggled by Pressing and Holding the ALT key then hit the F6 key. F6 had a finger pointing at a square area representing the touchpad.

Unlock keyboard for a Acer AS7540-1284

The Keyboard is locked? Or do you mean maybe the mouse pointer is locked? Look on your keyboard and see if you see anything that resembles a mouse touch pad. Some systems will lock the touch pad, but it can be unlocked by hitting a combination of keys, such as holding the FN key + the key with the touchpad icon.

The cursor on my AUSUS U50A is frozen. All other functions seem to be OK. How do I unfreeze the cursor?

Hi

Thank you for your query it would seem the touch pad has been locked

on most Asus laptops the key to unlock is to press the fn key + F6 key (the F key will have a rectangle on it and a finger or hnd pointing to it).

Please try and advise of the outcome

I hope this has been useful

Number keys on think pad lock using openoffice.org

On Thinkpads laptops the keys on the right hand side double up as the number keypad. To switch on the Number lock key pad on - press and hold the Shift key and press the NumLk/ScrLk key, it is above the F11 key, the Num lock LED will also light up. Press these keys again to turn off the Numer Lock.

My mouse pad does not work nor does USB cable

Has the mouse lock been applied.
Press and hold the "FN" key and then press "F9" this should unlock the mouse and touch pad.
Failing that try updating the drivers for both using the device manager as I have found that recent updates have disabled my touch pad and I have rolled back the drivers to the previous ones.

I have a hewlett packard laptop and on the right hand side of the keyboard are the keys with a small box with alternative symbols that can be used. I seem to have locked the computer into typing only these...

This feature will be available with Notebooks which are small in form factor and there is no space to provide the Number Pad seperately. So, the Numbers will be integrated on to the Alphabets.

Inorder to switch on the Number Pad, you need to hold the FN key and press the Number Lock. Pressing the Number Lock alone will not disable the integrated Number Pad.

Hope this helps...
