I want you open up the control panel or look for an opening where you can place a flathead screwdriver through the panel to turn the defrost timer slowly until the compressor and fans turn off. Thish should manually force defrost providing the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are still good. The defrost timer is location number 4 in this photo HERE Leave timer in that position for up to 45 minutes. If doing this causes defrost to work simply replace the=> 482493 Defrost Timer If this does bot work then you will need to move and check out or replace the=> 2263749 Defrost Heater Assembly Let me know what you find Sea Breeze

Where can I get a wiring diagram for a cold spot model 106.59597993. I need to replace the defrost timer and the new one has a different set up than the old one. The neutral side of the timer motor ha

The part number for that timer should be 482493. I'll venture to say that the black wire is throwing you off. Look at the timer, the pins to be exact, and notice how they are numbered. The black wire slides over pin 3. Once that is done cycle the timer slightly by turning the grey wheel looking thing in the middle. The reason is because the timer comes set in the defrost position and sometimes if not advanced they never come out of it. After this plug it in where the old timer was and plug it in. The machine should kick on and you'll be good to go.

That does not sound like a defrost timer problem. Sounds like a condenser or evaporator fan is beginning to fail. They don't always stop when they fail. Many will slow down and stop while you are not looking causing the refrigerator to stop cooling for a while. Let me know if you have any questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

Whirlpool top freezer fan not runnning and no voltage to the fan with the compressor running

This refrigerator has a basic wiring diagram showing power going through the defrost timer, compressor and compressor start components. Because the model number could be very close to the ET8WTKXK your model may have either a ADC, adaptive defrost control or typical 482493 Defrost Timer

Here is a Whirlpool ET8WTKXK Top Freezer Refrigerator basic wiring diagram.

Freezer works, Fridge doesn't

The defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment is most likely the problem. Need to turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. I should remain off for about 25 minutes. During that time the freezer should be in defrost. You may be able to open the freezer door and hear the crackling and sizzle of the defrost taking place. If the timer does not restart the refrigerator after 25 minutes the turn the timer clockwise again until the compressor restarts. Number 6 in photo below is the defrost timer. The replacement timer part number is 482493. Here is a photo. Thanks Sea Breeze

Ice is building in the freezer - I can manually defrost but auto doesn't seem to be working. What do I check - is this something I can fix? I'm pretty handy! Thanks! Noel

WHEN YOU JUST DON'T HAVE THE MODEL NUMBER Yes, tere are tings to check but I need the model number to help you bctter .The problem is most likely the defrost timer. I don't have your model number so I am going by what I can find about a Kenmore Elite.
The defrost timer is located most times insid the fresh food compartment and behind theconteol panel. Usually there is a hole that you can put a flathead screwdriver through and slowly turn the timer clockwise until the refrigerator compressor and fans stop. Let it stay like this for about 25 minuites until the compressor restarts. During this time the refrigerator should be in defrost. Open the freezer and listen for crackling and sizzling noise caused by defrost. If the compressor does not restart turn again clockwise and this will restart. If you nee the defrost timer here is a link below.

I have a whirlpool refg that will not auto defrost.

Inside your fresh food compartment is a defrost timer hidden behind the tep. control panel. Most panes have a hole or plug you may need to remove to turn the timer. I need you to turn it clockwise slowly until compressor stops running. Wait about 30 min. to see if the refrigerator comes back on. If not we need to replace the defrost timer part # 482493
That is providing the model number above your post is correct.

Refrig not old, freezer has frost

Hi KG,

The most common failure that causes this condition is the Defrost Timer. It's located inside the temp control panel inside the fridge compartment, you can see part of it on the right hand side of the controls and look up (like your looking at the ceiling)... you'll see two screws and a 1/2" hole.

The part number is 482493 and can be found on line or purchased locally (unless you live on a volcanic rock in the middle of the Pacific, that is). It's a breeze to replace. Here's a diagram I made for this repair... (step #4 says "ADC". ADC is a different kind of timer, but does the same as yours.)

Let me know if you need detailed instructions on the replacement steps, OK?
