My laptop crashed. I have extended warranty through Circuit City but they have problems. Can't reach anyone through any means. I have a recovery disk but my screen is blank (black) and when I put in the recovery disk, nothing happens. Help.

are you putting the recovery disk in with the computer off and booting with the disk in? that is what you need to do for the disk to work.

also, you may lose your data, depending on the recovery mode you choose.

have you tried plugging a screen into your laptop to see if it's the screen that is the problem?

one more question.. how exactly did your laptop crash? what were you doing when it happened and did you install any software just before?

Remove the battery for 4 hours and see if it resets.
The extended warranty should be through another company. look closely at the paperwork.
Does it have an indicator light?

You should get in touch with them as they must provide a disc or recovery parition which was bought when they bought that laptop.

If you have a Windows XP disk then you can normally install by going into BIOS and setting CD as first boot device. If it gives hard drive not found then you will need to install the SATA driver from the Toshiba website first.

I am having the same problem with my Sony. I bought it at Circuit City in November 2007 and the extended warranty, which I thought was for 4 years, has expired. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you resolve it?

I bought a new TV from Circuit City its broke model 3200

If you purchased an extended warranty for the TV then you will need to call 1-866-839-4481 That number is for Assurant Solutions who handle the warranties sold by Circuit City and other dealers. If its under manufactures warranty still, then call the manufacturer via the number provided in your owners manual and they will assist in locating an authorized servicer in your area. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks..

Acer usually has a hidden partition which allows you to reinstall the OS back to factory setting. When you boot hold down the ALT + F10 button and it should boot into the recovery disk

It sounds like you have an OEM disk of Windows XP from the manufacturer which will not always run as a recovery disk in these situations.

You have two main options; -
  1. If you are still under warranty for the laptop call the manufacturer explan the problem and ask them to send you a working non-OEM copy of the OS/ recovery disk
  2. Borrow a copy of a genuine Windows disk (same version of the OS, e.g. if it is Windows XP Home) and use it to access the Recovery console to run the repair option. Then of course return the disk to your friend.

This is what has become the RED RING of DEATH. The console has to be sent to Microsoft for repairs. It is a fatal software issue. There are two options for you.
# 1= send unit back to Microsoft for repair
# 2= buy a new unit @ BEST BUY or Circuit City an purchase the extended warranty.
The second option is what I did after my sons crashed the first time.

the problem you are having can be fixed with an adjutment that has to be done on the power supply. you will need a thec to do this adjustment. as for the remote you can get them here.

as for the extended warranty if it is still under manufacturers warranty you should be able to get it from the place you purchased it from( if they offer it) or the manufacturer.

Toshiba 135-S2246 processor damaged

Hi

First of All Usual meaning of crash related to Operating System which is Software. If you are talking about the Operating system Crash its not something to worry. Most effective way is to perform full system recovery by Using Toshiba Recovery and Applications DVD which comes together. When you put the disk in and restart by pressing F12 boot option will appear when you choose CD/DVD a menu will appear. With that menu you can perform windows system restore also Toshiba full system recovery (it will set everything to factory default).

Good Luck
