The unit tow which I am referring is a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X890.

  • davidv428 Jan 29, 2009

I'm afraid I was not clear enough in my description of the problem I am having.

The flash drive seem to work well because I play only spoken text. I do not, at this point, see a need to play music on the flash drive.

When I plug my iPod into the unit, however, using the USB cable that is when I get the 'No Music Data" message. The iPod does not play at all on the unit.

  • davidv428 Jan 29, 2009

Does that mean that the Excelon is not iPod compatible and that is why it won't work? Other than getting another reciever, are there other solutions?

First you need to make sure you have the right formats saved onto the flash drive. The "mp3" format is the most common. Second, once you put the flash drive into the head unit, it should auto detect, if not then you need to put it on USB. Try that and get back to me.

Trying to play flash drive in USB port on stereo

Make sure that the music files are indeed mp3 format. An iPod will play several different formats but most av head units only play mp3. A lot of the songs that are downloaded from iTunes are actually mp4

You might have to reset the logic by disconnecting the power to the unit. Remove the fuse temporarily, or both fuses if it has 2.

Is alpine going to upgrade the usb formay from fat32 to ntsf for playing memory sticks in unit or how do you format music to fat32 on a windows xp ntsf format without wiping out hard drive

The Alpine CDE-103BT requires only USB media that is FAT12/16/32. You can format your USB medium on your PC to FAT32 then copy your media (music) to the the USB drive.
Insert your USB Drive to the PC On your PC navigate to Start ->MY Computer Then locate your the drive that is your USB Drive. At this time you will want to save any of your data before continuing. All Data on the USB drive will be lost. Next ensure that you have selected the correct drive. Right Click on the drive on go to format... Under File System select FAT32. I would suggest leaving Quick Format unchecked. So you ensure that will information is removed. Then Click start. Next copy your media (music) back to the USB Drive. Insert in to the CDE-103BT Stereo.
Notes: MP3/WMA/AAC files are prepared, then stored to a USB memory. This unit can recognize at least 100 folders (including root folder) and 100 files per folder stored in USB memory. Do not make a file's playback time more than 1 hour.

Clarion dxz575usb USB wont recognize new music

Make sure that the music you're adding is going into a subfolder. Don't copy music files to the root of the drive. For example, put all the old music in "F:\Folder 1\" and put the new stuff in "F:\Folder 2\". Then when you plug the drive in to the USB port and it loads, press the up/down arrow on the right side of the unit to navigate folders, and the slider to navigate tracks. Took me awhile to figure that out!

When I plug my iPhone into the USB it doesn't

ANSWER: The headphone jack will not charge your iPod. Only the USB will charge your iPod. However, the headphone jack will play music, but the USB will not play music from your iPod.
REASON: The headphone jack does not provide any power to charge your iPod. It isnly has enough power to recieve a music signal.
REASON WHY YOU CANNOT PLAY IPOD THROUGH THE USB: The USB is only intended to be used with a flash drive or external hard drive with a folder structure containing either .mp3 or .wma files. The way the USB works on the system is that it reads all the files and folders on the entire device and will say "reading" until it reads all the files and folders. This should only take a few seconds but if there is tons of files it may take longer. Main problem: An iPod contains much more than just music files and folders - it contains an entire operating system. Worse, the operating system which the iPod uses is protected, keeping other devices except for iTunes from reading the music files.
TO PLAY MUSIC FROM USB (NOT IPOD): You will need to use a flash drive or external hard drive with your USB. This device can only contain music, and the music must be organized into folders. Your iPod will not work. However, you can use Auxiliary input using a cable which both ends are 1/4" headphone jacks, one end going to the iPod and other plugged into your stereo.
SOLUTION: To charge your iPod, you need to plug it into USB. However, to play music, you need to plug your iPod into the headphone jack.

Clarion DB365USB head unit won't play songs from 8GB flashdrive

The reading of flash drives and MP3 discs vary from each manufacturer. Usually, ten folders with music in each folder will work on most. To the best of my knowledge, Clarion reads well. When all else fails, you can always just drag and drop all the MP3's without folders. I know it's not as easy "finding" songs that are in folders but seems like you can't do that anyway.

I know this is lame, but the manual ALWAYS describes HOW to make the disc (folder trees etc.)
