If you expect you old reliable to maintain perfect tune-up status after TWO years, you are expecting too much, it could be many small things. Do a complete inspection before changing so many parts.
Hello, It sounds like you are not getting any energy to coil to make a spark. Follow wiring from selinoid to coil area on engine. Make sure there are no wires that have melted or rubbed on the engine metal to wear through and ground out. I think you'll find that either the positivly charged wire going to your coils has fallen off or is grounding out. You may want to try to start the mower in the garage when it is dark out, you should be able to see a spark where the positive wire is grounding out and focus on that point. First you must rule out grounding issue before replacing coil on the engine.
A rebuild kit on a 2004? Why was that needed?
I would do a compression test to verify that the ring, and valves are working for you. Should be above 100 psi. (Throttle open while kicking it over) This may help get you started toward a fix.
Did you try pulling the spark plug and spraying some starter fluid or carb cleaner into the cylinder, putting the spark plug back in and starting it? If you've got spark and it doesn't start for a few seconds then you probably have carb problems. Good luck!
Is it getting a spark at the plugs? Check the crank position sensor and the connection. Unplug it and was it iff with CRC electroni spray cleaner. The sensor and the plug. The sensor is located above the crank pully and more easily accessed from below.. Godd luck_Ned_
