I have the same problem on my range, the thermal fuse blows every time I use the self-clean feature. I have replaced part no. 8400802 several times.

I'm wondering what you think of replacing this part with 4451442, which is a 248 degree thermostat, or 4452223, which is a 266 degree thermostat. the stock 8300802 is a 230 degree thermostat

WHAT DOES THERMAL FUSE LOOK LIKE

  • dre0652 Apr 05, 2009

After starting the Self Cleaning Mode the Display went blank and the Oven Door stayed locked. The Burner Igniters still work on the Stove Top and I tried resetting the power to the unit but this did not fix the problem. Apparently there is an updated kit for repair, part number 9759243 which should be available free of charge. Everyone should complain to KitchenAid. If you know where the part is located in the oven please advise.

Same thing happened to me just yesterday. Tried shutting the power off too. Oven is still locked. I have a repair scheduled for tomorrow. It was the first time I used the self-cleaning feature. I've also had the safety valve go on this range 3 times in the 4 years I've had it.

this has happenned to our range twice during self clean cycle panel goes blank and door remains locked. First repair one year ago replaced high limit sensor. that appears to have happened again, clearly a design problem that should be on a recall list!!!!

This problem is well documented on the net and a common problem with running self clean on these ranges. There is a thermal fuse on the back of the oven box (under the outer sheetmetal skin.) It overheats in self clean mode and shuts off gas and power to the oven/display (like it's designed to do in a fire.). IT's a $40 part and not hard to do yourself. All you need is a screwdriver to remove the sheetmetal and part. The replacement part # # is 8300802.
Just fixed mine this week..

Gas range oven door with not open

Your self cleaning cycle is running. When self cleaning is running the door is automatically locked and will not unlock until the self cleaning cycle completes or self cleaning is turned off. You should be able to just turn off the self cleaning cycle and the door will unlock. Do not try to pry open the oven door. You will just damage the door and/or the catch.

Bosch evolution range door won't lock for sef cleaning

You are correct. If the door does not lock, the self-clean function will not activate.

Spray some WD40 into the lock mechanism and let it sit over night. Then try it again.

I also have a XL44 (GE JGBP90) and I can't figure out how to latch the door. When I press Self Clean, the display asks me to latch the door, but I don't see a lever. I think it might involve lifting the range, but I don't want to force it. Any ideas?
