First thing to do - check wireless is turned on. It sounds basic, but sometimes the switch can get knocked, meaning that the laptop won't recieve any wireless signal. If this doesn't work, play around with the settings for a while - if you're running Windows you can go to 'network connection' in Control Panel and right-click on your wireless connection; go to 'repair' and the repair wizard will go through it to try and fix it. Make sure both the wireless switch on your laptop is turned on, and that your modem is turned on too.
If this doesn't work, go to your modem's setup page (usually a web page - the address will be in the manual) and choose a different wireless channel - 0, 6 and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels. You may want to adjust your wireless signal power to make sure you have enough signal. You might also want to run a diagnostic on your modem to see if it is running properly. Some modems will display on the setup page which computers are active. See if yours comes up.
If this still doesn't work, you may want to go to an internet cafe or other wireless hotspot to check whether it is your modem which is at fault. If you get a signal and can connect, then it may well be the modem at fault. Check at some other locations just to be sure. If not, it sounds like the wireless card has a problem. If it is an internal wireless card, you might want to take it back to the manufacturer for repair. If it is an external wireless adapter, you may just want to replace the card or adapter to see if this helps.
Hope you work it out, and that you get your wireless connection back soon!

Internet connection

That model isn't a Desktop, it's a laptop. If you're attempting to connect wirelessly, there's a wireless button, identified by an icon that looks like a tower with radio waves emanating from it. It's usually above the keyboard, and it has a blue light that indicates that wireless power is on. If the light is amber, the power is off.

Even when on, you have to use the icon in the notification area to select a wireless source, and maybe enter a numeric key or password. But on newer routers, you press a WPS button to automatically allow the device to connect.

I am having trouble connecting to the internet because my WLAN has been turned off, how do I turn my wireless back on?

From the HP website:

The power to the wireless network and bluetooth devices is controlled by a switch or button on most computers. It is possible to accidentally bump the button and turn off the wireless service. c02230159.jpg On most computers, there is an LED light that glows blue when the wireless device is turned on and enabled, and glows orange when off or disabled. Some newer models use different a different color scheme. To turn on and enable the wireless device, do the following:
  1. To turn on the wireless device, simply move the switch to the on position. On some computers, the switch is actually a touch point on the panel above the keyboard.
  2. To enable the wireless device, right-click the HP Wireless Assistant (disabled) icon c02228164.gif and select Open Wireless Assistant . Click Turn On . The HP Wireless Assistant (enabled) icon c02228163.gif will display.

Can't connect to the computer wireless

Laptops have an option to turn off the wireless, you basically have to turn on your laptop and hold the FN key and look for your key that has a little atenna with signals and press that together with the FN key, you should be good, if that doesnt work then check your device settings and make sure something didnt disable your wireless card.
