Question about Dell 1720dn Laser Printer

1 Answer

I have a Dell 1720 and the output sensor light keeps blinking. I have read some of the solutions but would like to actually fix it instead of using tape and a quarter since it is for a customer. thanks

I assume that the solutions are telling you to make sure that the output tray has both of the tabs pushed down. There was an issue with these printers in the beginning with the tabs not going back down after being pushed up. On one of my printers, I removed the tab that was getting stuck and it seemed to do the trick.

I have a Dell 1720 printer and a light is flashing to indicate that I need to remove the output, and nothing I do makes the light stop flashing so I cannot print anything.

On the top where the paper comes out is a sensor. There is a flap with an arm attached that passes thru a photo-sensor. make sure the flap is not stuck in the up position and make sure the little arm is not broke off. You will need look very closely

1320c Dell Printer has blinking orange error light. How to fix this? Have looked for jammed paper, checked ink cartridges, rebooted, etc....Will not print.

If the light is flashing, it might not be the PHD, but you might be having a problem with the PDL emulation. Just go the control panel, right click the Dell printer. Select printer properties, not properties. Go to the advanced tab and check print directly to printer instead of spool print documents. This should work.

There should have been instructions with the replacment drum unit, for resetting the drum counter.

If not check your manual, or if you can't find it, download ot from Dell website

First and 4th yellow lights stay on

You should still be able to do a printer test page (press the arrow button).

Look at the printed page(s) for the Photoconductor AND the Toner.

They show as OK when new (or very low count), and 100% when fully used.

It IS ossible that the toner cartridge has a faulty (or if a remanufactured cartridge - un replaced) chip.

Some 'after market' chips are not compatible with E250, and it IS possible that your replacement cartridge is for an E350, or E450 (which have different chips, and some of the poorer remanufacturers , and some reselers that don't do these very often don't know).

It could even be a Dell 1720 chip on the cartridge.

I make around150 Dell 1720, 20 E450, 50 E350 cartridges a month and only around 5 E250s, so this gives you an idea of the relative numbers, in the market

Dell Printer 1720

This error is caused by the the flap on the right hand side of the output tray (the tray the paper feeds into once it has printed). It becomes stuck in the up position and sends a false positive error to the printer. One "work around" for this is to tape a quarter to the plastic flap. This keeps the flap in a down position, thus negating the false positive. The other option is to call dell laser printer tech support to get it fixed. <If it is still under warranty>
