Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

1 Answer

9-in1 card reader, USB ports can't be "safely removed"

When I plug something in, be it an MMC, SD, SDHC, my MP3 player or a USB flash-memory drive, I can't safely remove it. I click the icon and windows (XP) comes up with "This device 'Generic volume' cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later."
I have uninstalled the USB controllers and card readers on disk drives in Device Manager, rebooted, and tried again.
A friend told me to try going into the policies tab and setting the drives to Optimize for Quick Removal.
That hasn't worked either. I have to turn off my PC before I can take any media from the drives. Not a huge deal, but can be pretty annoying when trying to upload pictures.
I can't say exactly how long it's been doing this, but it's been well over 6 months, and I can't find anything else on Google to help fix this problem.

My mum has got problems loading adobe reader upgrades as it say invalid drive L:/ and there is no L drive on her computer

Hi

I assume you mean updates (improvements) rather than upgrades (new versions).

When downloading, do not let it do a default download. Select SAVE and choose where to download to the Adobe folder in Programs, in Local C:. Install it from there once downloaded.

If you constantly, regularly or occasionally have external hard drives, memory card readers, usb flash memory sticks, usb internet dongles, bluetooth devices, cellular phones or MP3/MP4 players
connected to the computer additional drive letters can be created.

If the first attempt to download the update occurred when any of these devices were connected then the download may remember this drive letter and be trying to download there whether it exists or not.

Certain types of viruses can sometimes create Ghost Drives on your computer.

If in doubt, remove adobe reader and all its components completely from add or remove, restart the PC and then download the latest version from www.adobe.com.

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Adobe Reader - Remove - remove all components > reatrat computer.

When installed properly, Adobe programs should alert you and prepare updates automatically
and should download to the Adobe folder in Programs folder.

No PDF documents on the computer will be affected.

Hope this helps

I cant open my sd/mmc card reader and writer.

Some SD and MMC have a security feature in them. If so you will need the disk that came along with it. After you install it then that's the time you can fully utilize your SD/MMC. SD means Secure Data / MMC means Multi Media Card.
If your card reader is not appearing in the My Computer then check if it is detected in the Windows device manager. Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DEVICE MANAGER. Usually it is under the category of Disk Adapters or Human Interface Device. If it's not present then unplug and plug the device back in. Or try a different USB port to see if that will work. If it doesn't then most likely the reader is defective. But if it is detected and still not able to read the SD/MMC and the SD is being read by a different computer then the issue could be that the SD is not compatible with the reader.

I've had kodak easy share on my computer for years. Recently I tried to access the pictures and got "can not process your request..(error code 9477068x301x94770168x) I have called them &...

Forget easy share, just take out the memory card (SD card) from your camera and buy a SD card reader. Put this memory card in the card reader and plug the card reader in your computer USB. It will work like a normal pen drive and you will find all your pictures inside DCIM folder of your memory card. Copy all pictures in your computer HDD to be on safe side.

I'm assuming you have restarted the computer with no luck. Go to the web site of your computer manufacturer and see if there is any update for the chipset driver or any FIRMWARE and update them. It may require you to reboot the computer. Do it. then go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DEVICE MANAGER > uninstall all UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS and HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICE that you see there, then reboot the computer. After that your computer will detect new devices, let it finish. run a scan of your computer for possible infections then reboot the computer. You should be fine then.

How do i store pictures to memory card then upload to my acer laptop. Memory card is to small to fit any slot. This is on a sony ericcson vivaz

You have 2 options. You can connect the phone to your laptop using the micro usb cable. It has a narrow plug which fits into the phone and a wider one which fits into the usb port on the laptop and should have come with the phone. The other option is to buy a card reader for your laptop. These take lots of different types of cards and plug into the usb port on the laptop. The memory card with your phone is a Micro SD card so make sure the card reader you buy is reads these. The card readers are available for around 10 euros from places like Tesco or from computer shops.

I have a crad reader but cannot connect to PC to download photos to put on SD card to put into my new digital photo frame! Help!! I have tried in all the USB ports My PC is Compaq and the card reader is...

it "should be plug and play"
does the memory card show up as a hard drive/removable disk on your my computer setting? (open my computer and see if there is a new drive)
or when you plug it in does it say found new hardware?
if so write down what it calls it
mass storage device, or drive,etc...
also where are you saving the photos? this would be the folder at the top of save as window.

Some USB-connected devices don't show up as drives

Hey Kunal,

This is not unusual windows will only recognize the standard memory cards not any custom ones or inbuilt ones. For example if your device is using a SD memory stick it will show up in explorer however if you are using a device that has a copyright or custom it wont. I am surprised the digital camera is doing the same thing as thy use mmc cards which are standard and should show up.

With these devices when you connect it to a pc you would get an option on the lcd on the device that would need you to confirm connection. may be thats what you were looking for. If you have a memory card reader you can try using that as well.

Please rate if this fixed it or was helpful.

If i missed something let me know.
