Question about Washing Machines

Where to get timer motor for old commercial maytag coin washer

I have afew coin operated maytag washing machines. one of ther timer motors went and I need it replaced. Unfortunately, I dont have the model # of the machine because these machines were originally regular machines that were converted into coin machines by replacing the top. Thse machines are about thirty years old.
The timers have a little plastic head that attaches to the shaft tof the timer. When the coin slide is pushed in, the plastic head pushes in the whole shaft which starts the cycle

I have the same problem. I think it's because my tenants accessed the area behind the panel that hides the mechanism and may have tried to turn the entire rotating part counter clockwise instead of clockwise. Now, when I try to activate the process myself, the rotating part stays stationary and I can no longer hear the ticking mechanism that used to accompany it as it moved clockwise through the process...

have you found a solution to your problem yet? can this piece be purchased? cheers and thanks for any help or advice. Liz

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Trying to install timer on Maytag coin-op washer. Did something wrong It filled with water and then stopped

Check voltage supply to the timer, make sure power is still supplying
the timer motor when the water shuts off, at which time if the timer motor is powered will close the next set of contacts and start the wash
cycle. Make sure you have the correct timer.
Also check the safety switch for the lid, if the lid does not close that switch or if its bad, the wash cycle will not start.

Open the control console.
Use a voltmeter to test the timer motor.
Set the machine to wash.
Place the meter leads on the 2 timer motor wires.
If you read 120 volts and the timer does not advance, the timer motor is bad.
The complete timer will need replacing.

Whirlpool commercial washer stopped running mid

Most likely the pump is plugged with lint, pillow stuffing, a small object, or some other obstruction which is not allowing the motor to turn.

it not a belt, there is a $20 plastic and rubber coupling between the motor and the transmission that has broken.  It needs replacing.

  1. purchase a coin insert and blank the slot that coins fit in, then the slide will slid in without coins, just acting like a button, if you examine the slide you wil notice that there are plastic inserts in unused coin slots, any maytag commercial dealer has them.
  2. replace coin slide with 'free operation' converter, which is just a button plate that pushes the striker on the timer switch
  3. take top cover off and just push the striker on the timer, (this is NOT) a recommended option, 220v is enough to spoil you whole day)

Maytag washing machine

When the washer fills up, first thing that actuates is the diaphragm switch under the control header. This is directly connected into the timer. The diaphragm switch starts the timer motor listed on the diagram as TM. Check the timer motor. If its working you can see something rotating in a little window on the motor. The motor operates all the internal cam switches.
