Question about Coby TVDVD1350 13 in. TV/DVD Combo

1 Answer

I just got a Coby digital tv/dvd combo. The dvd player works fine but I can't get any channels to come in either on dtv or tv. It's just a blue screen. Does it need to be hooked to an antennae? There is no cable in that room. My old tv came in with rabbit ears, but I needed to get a digital before the conversion.

About the only thing to check is in the menu where is the source for signal set to? Air or CATV(cable). You can also see if another set works there or not.

Any High quality RCA type Audio/Video cables will work for your installation, I just researched this for you.

As for your second question copying from DVD to DVD is a tricky situation. DVD's have several forms of copy protection including CSS Macrovision Level 2 and Encryption. Under the fair use act you are legally allowed to make backups of media that you own. I am not going to post the solution here as it may violate site rules but I know how to do it. If you contact me I will tell you how.

I hope you find this information useful, Feel free to contact me with any of your technical needs. I do this for a hobby, My info is always FREE....

I cant get any channels with my coby tv

This COBY only has an analog tuner. Thus unless you are close to one of the remaining low-power stations, you need a digital-to-analog converter for OTA TV signals. For digital TV, you should use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to identify the antenna and direction for the digital signals that you may be able to receive. Antennaweb assumes an outdoor antenna is conservative in the channel list it provides. Digital signal is either enough to register with the tuner or No Signal. An amplifier may be needed is the signal is split to several TVs.

If you have cable, check the type of signal coming in to the TV. If the signal has been switched to digital, you need a set top box.

I hope this helps.

Digital tuner

I don't have this unit, but guessing from it's description on Amazon.com, I'd figure that it is analog-only. So you would need a converter.

Here's the thing: all U.S. broadcasters are transmitting the new DTV signals NOW - in addition to the old analog signals. If a TV has a digital tuner, you should be able to use it now to see those DTV signals. Check your setup menu for options like ATSC.
One hint, the new signals use channel designations like 7.1 or 7-1 or 7-1HD. And some stations will have virtual channels, i.e., 7.1, 7.2, 7.3. If you can't get your TV to scan channels and show the numbers in that fashion, it isn't using a digital tuner.
