DMC-FX01 Flash Does Not Work (by 3 users)

posted by dm05 on Jul 24, 2007

Hi,
Everytime I try to take a photo using the flash the icon for this will flash red and wont take a picture, if I turn the flash off it will then take the picture. Is there a way to reset the camera or a firmware update as I believe this could be a software problem. Also if I goto the menu after about 5 secs it asks me to turn the camera on and off again.

Any help in fixing this will be greatly appriciated

Thanks you for your help but unfortunatley it is in everymode that the flash wont work. Before this problem the flash icon was white now it is always red no matter what flash option is selected. The only way I can take a photo is when the flash is off.
I have the same problem Post a new problem

AfterI recharged my battery, the flash no longer works. The symbols flash red and then a message 'Please turn camera off and then on again' appears. Nothing happens when I turn the camera off, the problem is still there

In what mode are you trying to take photos? The flash will not work in certain modes (see the manual), for example the night mode. Or you accidentialy turned on sequential/burst mode (this is mode where camera takes more pictures on one shutter button press). Flash cannot be used in this mode also.
I don't have FX01, but on FZ8 the camera will show flash icon in red, but will take the picture anyway without flash being triggered.
The second problems seems like enabled power-saving mode, but those 5 seconds are too short for this. But anyway you can check in SETUP menu the settings for power-save.
Also maybe the flash is broken and camera noticed it... I don't think this could be a software problem. Either problem with the flash, but more probably just setting of wrong mode.
