Viking range - gas flame on one burner does not change

I just had ignition system replaced on my viking range -which is only 3
years old. Now one burner seems to have only one flame setting, about medium flame no matter where the knob is set. Repair person did remove knob and tried to adjust but thinks we need a new valve.

It sounds like the repair man was correct. The only variable is the valve, if the rest of the burners are fine then it will be the valve

Oven not cooking at correct temperature & loses heat

Had a similar issue - but my unit is eight years old. Turns out my issues were my oven ignitors were failing and one of the burners had corroded causing the flame to only light on one side. To fix I replaced two ignitors (apparently they are to be replaced every 3-5 years) and cleaned the burner with a brass wire brush. If you are handy the ignitors are easy to replace - one screw and two wires each. Burner was one screw to remove.

Ceramic ignitors if wearing out can cause delayed lighting of the oven burners and/or reduce the gas flow - hence not heating up.

That was my experience ....

Viking oven not heating past 150 degrees

My viking oven had same issue - I needed to replace the ceramic ignitors (if ignitors fail to heat up properly the gas valve remains partially closed). Apparently they are intended to be replaced every 3-5 years. Also inspect and clean the oven burners - mine had corroded somewhat and prevented the flame from 'moving' to the opposite side - ie only half the burner was lighting. If you are handy the ignitors are very easy to replace - one screw, two wires each.

Oven in my viking range takes over 1 hour to heat to 350 degrees after another hour it is up to 385. degrees This is an ongoing problem the range is about 10 years old

Sounds like your ceramic ignitors have worn out - apparently they are to be replaced every 3-5 years - so if you've gone 10 this could be your issue (it was mine). I have two in the larger oven & 1in the smaller one. Easy to replace (60$/each) - two wire and one screw each. When they fail to heat up properly the gas valve doesn't open fully, or won't open at all.

Also I'd clean the burners when in there ... mine corroded a bit and required brass wire brushing. There is a small **** on the burner that had filled in (width of a piece of paper) which prevented the flame from moving to the opposite side of the burner - so essentially only one side of the burner lit.

3 out of 4 viking burners won't stop sparking

Hi,

This is a sticking ignition button, or one of the microswitches linked to the control knob is stuck, this can be due to not being used for a while.

I hope this helps

Occasional gas smell

If you have a burner lit and gas build up, strong smell etc., my advice would be to stop using the oven immediately! You no way gas should come out, build up, to the point you smell it, Especially while a burner is lit. Dangerous condition.

Viking 30" Range - Igniter works - but NO FLAME in oven or ranges

No pilot light need to be ignited. You may need a new ignitor. It might not be catching. If you pull the bottom oven plate off you can see the ignitor on the side of the burner and see if it is in its place or broken or just plain old. It is a simple fix. You can buy a universal ignitor or contact Viking and they will sell it to you. Its only two wires and can do it yourself if you are somewhat technical. Good luck.

Viking oven

Built into the burner is a small passage to allow the gas to reach the spark gap.
Take off the cast ring and inspect it for blockage.

I'm having a similar problem. I don't know the exact fix yet, I'm just starting to research. Check this link: http://www.applianceguru.com/forum1/1916.html
It sounds like the ignitors are suspect. This may be a weak component for Vikings. This link recommends a Maytag replacement part.
