On one of my computers (windows xp professional) when I use the "send to" option by right clicking on a file (windows explorer) that I want to burn, my cd-rw drive is not being displayed.

Probably easier just to add it back:

start>run>type in "sendto">click "ok">right click in the white area>select new>shortcut.

In the "create shortcut" box, click on browse and navigate to your cd/dvd drive, just follow directions after that.

When I click on a picture folder, the "Picture Tasks List" on the left side does NOT include the "Copy to CD" option like out other XP computer. Why is that?

. Follow the directions below to correct this issue
1) Check to see if the CD-RW or DVD-RW is functioning properly.
  • Right-click on My Computer
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on Hardware
  • Click on Device Manager
  • Click the plus (+) next to CD/DVD Drives and make sure the drive is functioning properly. If it has a yellow checkmark next to the drive, this is the cause of the problem. You'll need to right click on the drive, click on Properties and check the device status under the General tab to see why the drive is having difficulty. If you are receiving a Code 39 error for your CD or DVD drive, visit this page to solve it.
2) If the drive is functioning properly, examine these other options
  • Open My Computer
  • Right click on the CD-RW or DVD-RW drive and click on Properties
  • Click on the Recording tab
  • In the Desktop CD Recording section, make sure the "Enable CD recording on this drive" is checked, if it isnt check the box. This is the problem.

How do I format a disc (DVD or CD) on Windows XP?

You only format a CD/RW or a DVD/RW, which are re-writeable.

Regular discs do not need to be formatted (CD-R or DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, etc.).

To format the DVD/RW idisc, use the "burner" software ( Sonic?, Nero?) and choose [Tools] [Erase Disc] (erase is the same as format)

I download video from my flip video, but I cannot burn to DVD-RW...it says to insert CD which I have already done

What CD are you using to Burn then movie?

Get a Blank DV Rewriteable CD (make sure its blank)

Format the DVD CD by right clicking it from Windows Explorer and follow the instructions. (this should not be neccessary especially if its a blank CD)

Use a normal copy and paste from Windows Explorer to copy the movie file or folder into the DVD drive.

this process absolves the issue of media formats and portability. Also most CD DVD Burning Softwares are not compatible with some players.

Simple question: How do I write/save information onto a CD-R disk

Save the information you want to write to a folder of your choice, in a location where you will know to find it. You can make a special folder in My Docs called Export or whatever....
Then right click the Start button to open explorer. Browse to the folder you saved and select (highlight) it. Right click and choose Send to: CD-RW drive.
Yes to write these files, etc. Probably you'll get a notification balloon that the files are ready to be written to CD.
Scroll down in that same explorer window (or open a new one) to your CD drive (D?) and if you expand it (click +) you should see the files waiting there.
Now highlight the CD drive and click on the File menu. You'll see an option to Write these files to CD. Choose that and the writing takes place..
To retrieve info from a cd, you open explorer, scroll down to the cd drive and open the file or drag and drop it to another location in your documents, for example.
Please also see a step by step guide from Microsoft by clicking here, and a link to the Windows XP Help & How to that you might wish to save as a favorite available here

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!
