PC not booting when AVERmedia TV tuner card is inserted

Hi experts,

My tv tuner card was absolutely working fine. Suddenly, it started giving trouble. whenever i insert that card in PCI slot, my PC will not boot up. The monitor LED will be blinking (same as when PC shutdown) but the CPU power LED will be ON. Even the hard drive LED will be continuously glowing.

Some days back my SMPS was gone due to some power fluctuations.. I am wondering if that can affect this card, I guess it wont.

please help...

Hi Techguru... thanks a lot for your reply..
I tried removing the battery and resetting the BIOS to default.. but still the PC doesnt boot when I connect the TV tuner card.

Even the setup screen wont come if I connect the TV tuner card.
I guess.. i'll have to buy a new card now :(

Techguru2009: Seems you might have a conflict with your I/O. You need to reset the bios either by loading defaults or just remove the CMOS battery for ten minutes. After start the computer without the pci card. If all is well, then shutdown. insert the card in a different slot on the motherboard. Power up and the bios should recognize the update. Hope this helps.

Hello, everyone!! i have lenovo ideapad y560 with inbuild tv tuner & also a connector wire to connect dish cable to laptop... but my question is that how do i watch tv on my laptop OR in which...

Hi

TV tuner cards allow you to view programming on a computer system. Although desktop computers allow you to install internal TV tuner cards, laptop systems do not have the available space for internal cards. Because of this, laptop computers have PCI express card slots. This slot allows you to install and remove (at your will) additional hardware, such as TV tuner cards.

  • TV tuner card
  • Driver installation CD
  • Software installation

  1. Locate the PCI express card slot (located on the side of your computer opposite the disc drive). Push in on the protective cover on the slot to unlock it from the case. It pops out slightly, allowing you to remove the card.
  2. Slide in the TV tuner into the PCI express card slot. The card clicks into place and a light blinks on when the card has connected successfully to the laptop computer.
  3. Insert the driver installation CD into the disc drive of the computer. Momentarily a driver installation wizard appears on the screen. Click "Next" on the welcome page, then accept the given license agreement. Choose "Next" two more times, then select "Install" and the drivers from the driver installation CD install onto the computer.
  4. Eject the driver installation CD and insert the software installation CD. This is the program you use to view the connected receiver. As with the driver installation CD, wait for the installation wizard to load up onto the screen. Accept the license agreement, leave the installation name and location blank, then click "Install" to install the software.
  5. Restart the computer. Upon restart the laptop is ready to begin using the TV tuner card.

No picture display at all but with sound

This most likely a codec issue, TV is encoded in MPEG 2 format. If you download the "shark codec pack" this will contain the codecs you require to view the stream.

PC TV PCI Internal Card w/ Phillips SAA7130 PCI TV Card

You don't need to do anything with the modem at all, other than remove it. Uninstalling the modem drivers will not affect theTV Tuner. Removing the card will disable the feature automatically, so dont worry about that. As far as the TV tuner is concerned, just pop it in, and install the software. If the software is giving you troubles, try going to manufacturer's website and search for drivers.

P4p800-vm pci slot is not recognising the add on card ( TV tuner)

There is no PCI-E slot on this motherboard. It has an AGP 8x slot and 3 PCI slots, but no PCI-E. Therefore, even if you could manage to get the PCI-E card physically into the slot it will never work.

Here is a link to the manual - http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4p800-vm/e1338_p4p800-vm.pdf

PCI slot / TV tuner error

i am not an expert, but have lots of experience with my own media center. by moving the tuner card you changed the address of it which if the os does not recognize new hardware, it will not install the drivers for it. i believe you will have to use the device manager to reinstall the drivers for the tuner card. also will have to redo the setup for the tuner in media center. another problem with the softare change is you have to update the security components to be able to view certain channels.

you can find the best information for all these subjects at your computer manufacturers support website and of course microsoft for the security components. good luck, it should not be too difficult to solve your delemna with a little research and searching there.
