Question about HP LaserJet 4000n Printer

1 Answer

HP Laserjet 4000N (networked printer) suddenly will not print jobs. Will hold in queue and must go to printer to get it to continue. We have many computers (mostly Macs in varying OS versions - 9.2.2 to 10.5 - but a couple of Windows XP machines) utilizing this on the network. It is set for auto updates so I think these are all current. This just started to happen after working fine for many years. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.

Can you clarify a few things for me?

    1. Firmware version

    2. Jet Direct Card version

    3. Any error messages?

    4. How do you get it to print from the printer, what steps do you follow to release the documents from the queue?

Thanks, with that info I can help you solve this. Or at least point you in the right path.

49.4 C18 laserjet 4345

49.XXXX is a fatal catch-all error. Could be firmware problem, network, print job. If the error occurs when you try to print, clear the print queue. If the error occurs when the printer is just sitting idle, reseat the formatter. Try powering on without the network cable attached. If it still happens replace the formatter. Could be a corrupt print job being sent to printer. Print something else.

One of the hp 9050n printer have 49.2f83 eror what is the solution please

Follow these steps.
1. disconnect all parallel, network and usb cables and power cycle printer. If it comes to ready good.
2. After making sure that all print jobs are cleared from printer queues, reconnect the network cable or parallel cable. If printer stays are ready, good. If it errors again, likely a stale print job that you missed in a queue. Check and start over.
3. When you can get the printer to ready with the network cable attached. Go to HP.com and download and install the latest firmware on the printer.

If the printer continues to 49 you can try updating the print driver as well. If the 49 error is persistent, remove the formatter and try to perform an engine test. if the engine test works then you have either a bad formatter or bad memory on the formatter. Remove memory and restart, still error, then formatter it is.If the engine test does not work then you may have a bad dc controller.

I have a HP 4000n printer and want it to print from tray 3 when tray 2 is empty. It doesn't do that now.

I don't have a 4000n, but I do have a 4200n that should be relatively similar. On the 4200n you can change this behavior by going to the menu, then Configure Device->System Setup->Tray Behavior->Use Requested Tray, then setting that value to First. My guess is you have that setting on your 4000n set to Exclusively, which will then prevent the job from going to a different tray. It also requires that you have the same type and size of paper registered in both trays if you want the job to automatically switch over.

If that menu path is different on your 4000n you just need to dig around in that menu to find the tray behavior setting.

Key is flashing. Internet blue light is on. Printer gets signal for print job but won't print until I USB connect it to my Macbook OS 10.6.

Hi,

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue

The print queue and Dock printer icon
When you start a print job, you will see your printer icon appear in your Dock. Click the Printer icon to open the print queue, which is a list of print jobs that are printing, on hold, or paused. The print queue will also display messages sent from the printer.
You can alternatively open the print queue from the Print & Fax pane of System Preferences.

HP P1005 PRINT JOB SITS IN QUE, WO'T PRINT

Does it show "Printing" or "Spooling" in the job queue window?

Open the Job queue window, then highlight and cancel the print job. Send a small print job to the printer and make sure that the PC and the printer are communicating.

If the failure re-occurs, then clear the queue again and close it and restart i=the queue.

HP P2015dn setup in a language lab, serving multiple computers via a network. If the printer is off for most of the day, when it is turned on, the backup of jobs starts to print. How can I clear the queue...

If you have switched off the printer all jobs in the printermemory are gone. If the printer starts printing jobs when you switch it back on, there are still some printjobs in the system or on one of the pc's.

HP2550N PRINT QUEUE WON'T PRINT UNLESS TURNED OFF THEN ON

This definitely sounds like a driver problem so you will need to delete the old driver and then install the most current driver and patches from HP Support.

Also Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS on your PC and you will see two files listed fior each of the outstanding print jobs. These will have the file extensions .SHD and .SPL

You need to delete both of these files then power off and power on your printer to be able to continue printing.
