Can't get to the mother board on Acer Travelmate 4011

My husband almost separated the keyboard from the mother board except for perhaps a hidden screw that is now allowing the boards to separate. does anyone know what the problem is or how to get the boards apart? thanks

The exact model number is ZLI on the Acer Travel Mate 4101 laptop. The problem is the charge jack where it is sodered to the main board is bent--at least that is my husband's theory and as he works on medical equipment he is pretty sure he can can fix it but he can't get the keyboard part all the way off. He took off all the screws he could find but there has to be either a special way to release the board or another screw that is not easily located. Hope you can help. The manufacturing date is 5/08. thanks

All i can really offer for help is to try to remove the screws on the underside of the notebook. That is how i have to remove the keyboard on my Sony vaio. I cannot find anything online that describes how to remove the keyboard. But i can say when you get the keyboard off follow the link i provided above and click on the link that says "How to fortify damaged power jack connection in a laptop" This gives excellent instructions on how to repair this jack.

Or if you want to buy a new one follow this link to buy one off e-bay.

If you look on the laptop repair link it gives you a good idea about how to remove the keyboard so follow those directions as close as you can. And remember that these computers use a lot of snap fasteners so some stuff may be snapped in place and not screwed down.

BIOS

Step 1:
This might not be your laptop it might give you a guide into the cmos battery
The CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) battery saves basic settings on your computer. If the date and time function on your Acer notebook isn't working, chances are your CMOS battery needs to be replaced. Separate from your laptop's main battery, the CMOS battery is about the and shape of a coin and is located inside of your computer. Changing the battery yourself isn't the simplest task that relates to your Acer, but it isn't terribly difficult either. Here's how.

Open the notebook screen until you can easily access the keyboard. Locate the plastic bar that borders the top of the keyboard. Insert the flat head screwdriver at one end of the bar and gently pry it up until you can grip the edge with your fingers. Pry the other side of the bar up with the screwdriver and pull out the entire bar, being careful to mind the ribbon cord that connects the keyboard to the computer. Remove the two screws on either side of the keyboard that secure it to the computer. Slide the keyboard up and place it to the side. Remove the four screws on the exposed metal plate that covers the motherboard and remove it. You should now see the CMOS battery in the bottom-right-hand corner of the motherboard. Remove the battery by gently pulling it up and off the motherboard. Replace it with the same model battery (available at any computer store or online). Reassemble the computer the same way you took it apart. Acer TravelMate 6592G Keyboard Replacement Guide http://tomkaminski.com/acer-travelmate-6592g-keyboard-replacement-guide

Acer travelmate 2700 bios password and where is the CMOS battry on the mother board

Hi there,

your bios battery is soldered into the mainboard, its under the keyboard, next to the modem board and the bios chip itself.

In order to get to the battery you would first have to dissasemble the laptop, remove the keyboard, power buttons, and the top of the machine. You may also have to remove the display if its holding the top of the cover in place.

Removing the battery is no guarantee of reseting the password. You need to study the bios chip and find out which pins of it you need to short in order to reset its memory. In some cases the password might be stored on another chip.

How do I fit a replacement keyboard for my acer travelmate 4150

You need to remove the middle cover of the laptop and unscrew a few screw at the lower case. Try the find the logo keyboard at the lower case. I think just this model got screw to remove first to take it out.

How to replace Acer travelmate 4011 CDROM

Look underneath at the base plate

Under the CD-Rom unit there are two screws with arrows against them

Remove these screws

Get a paper clip and press it into the small hole on the front of the CD-Rom and the loading drawer will spring open

Use this as a lever to gently pull the unit forward and out

You may need to rock it slightly from side to side

To fit new one . just slide it into hole and press

Need help opening up back of Aspire 5570Z

Yepp, you need to separate the keyboard. You do that by remove the screw behinde the hinges. So dont pull out the screws under the laptop. When you removed the screws from the hinges, pull the keyboard up and backwards, be care, its all plastic and very very easy to breake.

Good luck

Mother Board CD for ACER Travelmate 240

Unfortunately the Travelmate doesn't come with any other way to format the computer to factory settings. However you do have 2 options. The first is to contact Acer who still provide OS discs for your laptop (They will charge you $49.95 including shipping). The second is to use a free Operating System such as Linux. I recommend Ubuntu www.ubuntu.org as it is very easy to use, has a great community support group and you can try by using a Live CD before formatting.
