Question about Toshiba 32A43 32" TV

1 Answer

Toshiba 32A43 Horizontal Bars, pop, no picture.

My friends Toshiba 32A43 Powers on and works for about 5 minutes, then horizontal lines are spread evenly across screen and it starts zooming out and the picture starts turning pink before a pop noise is made and the tube goes black. Unplugging the unit and reconnecting the power will restart the process. I have done nothing to the unit myself, but I am thinking that a high power flyback converter or something along those lines may be the problem, but figured I would ask around before diving in.

You seem to be right... there is no "high power flyback converter", but there is a High Voltage Flyback Transformer. It looks like you figured out that I was referencing that... my exact wording was not perfect, but I do know the part, and "the basic components". I also have the proper tools to discharge the CRT safely.

So thank you for your concern, but I have replaced numerous Analog/Video boards on iMac G3s (the CRT based iMacs), and I am also Apple Computer certified to do so. I have seen A/V boards (that is an Apple reference to the Analog/Video board that houses the flyback transformer) cause problems other then just a black screen.

I guess that is maybe why I posted a question here hoping someone might actually try and help and not be a smart@ss.

First of all, there is no such thing as a "high power flyback converter". There is a flyback transformer, but if it was bad you would have absolutely no picture at all. The fact that you dont even know what the basic components are suggests that you should not be "diving in" to someone else's TV. Do everyone a favor and allow an experienced tech to service the set.

Samsung LN32D403E4DXZA works for 30-90 min. Fine, color horizontal lines appear and a clear band at the top slowly spreads to the bottom. If off a while, turns on OK, but cycle repeats. Is it TCON?

Generally horizontal bars are signs of panel issues but you could try baking the tcon board in the oven and see if that helps since it works for a few mins...sounds like a heat issue if its not that panel

Screen become small in horizantal

The problem is with its width. Usually this will be related to faulty components in the horizontal deflection circuit; provided height of the picure is OK. Check the horizontal output section.

When we try to turn on the tv (toshiba model 32A43) it makes the sound of turning on then off and the screen stays black and a red light by the power button keeps binking

You're either losing high voltage or power supply is not producing the horizontal drive signal, Check for 130v on the collector of the horizontal output transistor, if you're missing your voltage, you have a power supply problem. If voltage is too high you have something open in the power supply such as a low value resistor. If its low, something is shorted in power supply, possibly voltage regulator ic.

Toshiba tv 32a43 power button flashes red and won't turn on

Check to see if horizontal output is shorted, But will have a damper diode, between the base and emmitter, will read 0 ohms. That's okay to check like that, Check for shorts between collector and emitter and collector and base. If ok, check for 130v dc on the collector of the horizontal output transistor.

green normally means exspensive to fix. the bulbs are the most exspensive part to fix like draging a magnet across the tv, get what you can out of the tv a start looking for a good deal but avoid phillips and magnavox please.
