Question about Brookstone SongCube Digital Music Center Shelf System

1 Answer

Brookstone SongCube After inserting a CD for playback, the CD won't play and is in a looped "SYS BOOTING" stage. Once the SYS BOOT has gone through the cycle, I get the following message, "SYS BOOTING EMERGENCY OPEN". Nothing I've tried to free the CD (reset button in back, unplugging the unit while pressing the open button) works. How do I free the CD from the SongCube?

Re: Brookstone SongCube

I had the same problem last night, I tried everything like you did, maybe I just got lucky. I was about to open the case of the unit, the system boot stopped and it went to sleep mode, then I turned it on and luckily the CD can be ejected. Just try playing around with it, you might get lucky. Good Luck...... NOTE: Never play that CD again in your SongCube

My CD player keeps displaying no disk and wont play the cleaner disc, is something dirty or broken?

If it does not play the cleaner disc, just inspect whether the disc inserted in spins inside it. You can check this by open the upper cover of the player, and inserting a disc into it. If inserted disc spins inside, and the player won't read it, the fault is with its laser pickup unit, and it should be replaced with same type and number.
If the disc dos not spins, the fault is with the sled motor [the motor that spins the inserted disc], has damaged, and should be replaced. OK.

Won't read disc

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.....

Not reading any cd format

Hi i have just been able to sort this problem, if your system says "NO CD" after it is inserted then the CD is not sitting right inside, solution for this is, join the philips club (free) and update the firmware and update the Gracenote software

1, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then take another cd insert it in slowly to push the other one down a bit until it stops (may only move a couple of millimetres, you are only using the cd as it fits the slot so don’t try and insert it!!) plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

2, insert the cd so it is in then turn it off and unplug then you can open the product and physically push the cd down (be careful when you take the lid off as the cd will not be fully slotted down and there are a couple of cables that can pop out but they are easy to put back and obvious) Put the lid back on and plug the centre back in and turn the centre on, it will boot back up and eject the cd that’s still in, wait until it is fully booted and insert the cd again, that should work

any probs just mail back and ill help as much as i can

Not getting constant play back

This is an excellent system for a bedroom or small office area. The random color changing light feature is very soothing to fall asleep to as well as the random/all disc playback so you don't fall asleep to the same thing every night! The 90 minute max sleep timer is just perfect to give me time to read a little and still be able to fall asleep to music. I also use the random playback feature during the day to play my parrot's training CDs so he doesn't get bored either! This is a great system and I highly recommend it.

How to transfer mp3 files form pc to songcube

songcube can only copy mp3 files from your itunes library. i tried several formats but only mp3 works. first you have to convert your itunes library files to mp3 format. To convert music files from one format (e.g. AAC) to another (e.g. MP3): 1. Open iTunes 2. Click on iTunes ? Preferences 3. Click on the Importing button at the top of the window 4. From the Import Using pop-up menu, click on the encoding format (MP3) to which you want to convert your music files 5. Click on OK to save the settings 6. Select one or more songs in your iTunes library to convert (Command-Click to select specific individual files or Shift-Click to select files in a row) 7. Click on Advanced ? Convert Selection to... (MP3 - the format you selected in preferences above is displayed) 8. A copy of the file (or files) will be created in the new format Now you can drag and drop the mp3 converted files to Jockey Digital Music Center(Songcube Software). Enjoy
